"Our stay at the Royal Kahana in John's condo was great. John was kind and responded in a timely manner to all our questions. The building itself is a little dated, but that doesn't really matter when this condo has been renovated so nicely. The balcony is only 15-20 feet from the ocean. Unfortunately the beach that was once there has eroded away, but Kaanapali beach is only a 5 minute drive away which we were pleased to be so close to.
Plenty of towels provided; both beach and bath. The bathroom felt very clean. The kitchen could use a little more supplies (barbecue equipment in particular) if your family is planning on cooking , but definitely enough to get by. No cooler provided but you can buy a disposable one across the street. The beds we used were both very comfortable as well as the pillows. We loved having the beach equipment in the condo: beach chairs, snorkel gear (two sets), umbrella, boogie boards, etc. Some gear needs to be replaced as it seems past renters were pretty harsh on it (pair of flippers broken, one of the beach chairs ripped apart, etc.). BEWARE OF THE YELLOW BOOGIE BOARD WITH BLACK DESIGN!! I used this board and once I was done I realized my entire torso was completely black from the ink rubbing off; thankfully came off with soap and water but not without a lot of scrubbing! There was also a pair of binoculars by the TV but they were broken. Don't know if they can be repaired but if you can fix them, we think you could do some whale watching off the balcony.
One thing that does need to be fixed in my opinion is the sealing with the front door, sliding door, and a couple windows. It was windy while we were there (pretty typical in Maui) but the shape of the building funnels the wind through the hallways to the rooms, and the seals aren't tight on the doors and this created a very irksome, high-pitch, whistling noise when the doors were closed, similar to the sound a teapot makes when the water is boiling (loud enough to keep you up at night). Sound came specifically from underneath at the bottom of the front door and the entire crack when the sliding door is closed and some windows. We had to always have the sliding door cracked and put pillows at the bottom of the front door to seal it and stop the noise. Since we weren't at the condo much is wasn't that big a deal but had we been relaxing more at the condo, it would be enough to bring our stay down a star.
Overall great value and quality with an ocean front view."
