"Houna Kai is an AWESOME property. Great location, fantastic beach, easy access to nearby grocery and towns. Pools were SO much fun. Beach was steps away. Property was well-lit at night (handy when kids are running about!) and the food at both Dukes and the cafe/market was great. The particular condo (1-bedroom w/pullout couch) was a little tight for 4 people though. It sounds like a strange comment, but the furniture was just too big. (Not an owner's issue as each condo was done up the same) but it was hard to manage two adults and two kids with giant couches, tables, and chairs everywhere. There was very little usable storage space (partly an owner issue, partly because for as large as the furniture is - the drawers were tiny!) It was nice that the owners offered a pack-and-play, but we didn't need one and it took up a huge chunk of the closet. It was also nice that there were boogie boards, pool floats, beach chairs and umbrellas - but there was SO much of that stuff it left an entire closet unusable. (6 boards, 3 huge pool floats, 3 umbrellas, 4 chairs - crazy amounts of beach toys) There were also two full drawers (of 4) under the TV full of books and appliance manuals. It was just strange to have limited storage space to begin with and have 1/2 of it full already. We also found it a little difficult to navigate the ins and outs of the property at first. The condo is rented directly through the owner, who has a 'greeter' to meet you at the property which was nice, but I felt like we were on our own to figure out what was available. There was a booklet from a local property management company with appliance instructions, local contact info for stores and medical facilities, etc. But there was no "Welcome to Honua Kai" type info about the facility itself... we were told not to have communication with the front desk, so we had to ask other guests about BBQ usage (first come or sign up?) and plain deck chairs vs. padded ones (have to rent some), pool rules (where could the kids use the inflatables, etc), hours/menus for the restaurants and where they were located. I would definitely stay there again though as it really was pretty posh and enjoyable - especially since I know the lay of the land now!"
