  • Fabulous place to stay on Molokai!

"The unit is very nice with gorgeous kitchen cabinets, fixtures, and counters. The bathroom is freshly updated (loved the tile on the walls in the shower). Up the spiral stairway to a very comfortable queen size bed. The decor is very Hawaii and welcoming. If you want to cook the kitchen is well-equipped. If you want to sit on the lanai, the table and chairs are just right. In-unit internet, cable TV....we wanted for absolutely nothing. Great experience and lovely place to stay."

  • Way off the beaten track

"Returned last week from a 2-week stay on Maui, including a 2-night detour on Molokai, staying in Ke Nani Kai unit #139. We took the Molokai Ferry from Lahaina to Kaunakakai (which we recommend only for those with very tough stomachs) where the Molokai Car Rental company was helpful enough to leave a funky little rental car waiting for us at the dock. The positives: The unit itself was more spacious than the similar unit we were staying in on Maui. It was nice for our family of four (two adults, two large teenage boys) to spread out and have some breathing room. It was very well stocked with extra bedding, bath towels, and kitchen necessities. There was lots of beach equipment including ice chest and new beach towels. The floor plan worked really well for us and the furniture was comfortable and nicer than expected. The pool area looked nice but we didn't use it. We explored the whole island and our favorite spots included Dixie Maru Beach, Halawa Bay, Kanemitsu Bakery, Kalaupapa Overlook, and the restaurant at the Hotel Molokai, which had great live ukulele music. The not-as-positives: This was our first visit to Molokai and, though we knew we would be somewhat isolated on the far western edge of the island, we were still surprised at how far we were from civilization. The complex itself (and others nearby) has a deserted, tired, feel that is reminiscent of a strange ghost town or Twilight Zone episode. It appears that it was probably quite a happening place in the 1970's but just feels really sad now, which is too bad because the beaches are cool here. As for unit #139, the few drawbacks included: Carpet didn't feel awesome - tile would have been a much better choice for a tropical vacation home. There was no A/C, but the unit's several fans were helpful. We tried to watch the Olympics at night but cable service was spotty so we gave up. The unit could use some improvements: In particular, the doors and windows don't close real well and we had to chase out a few geckos. And, sadly, the unit had a problem with interior mosquitoes, which needs to be addressed ASAP. If we visit Molokai again (which we probably won't because two days was really enough) we will stay at the Hotel Molokai. Not because we disliked Ke Nani Kai, but because we think the more centralized location would work better for us. All-in-all, we had a great stay on Molokai."

  • A Christmas to remember

"Incredible stay at Cottage 1B with my wife and daughter. Cottage is in prime location with everything you need and an incredible view. Two bedroom with very comfortable beds and one bathroom, I used the shower down by the beach mostly after surfing. My family and I kept saying how comfortable we felt in this home, we were fortunate to be able to spend Christmas, we decorated cottage went to church Xmas eve and had a fantastic holiday. My present was the 20+ft surf out front Christmas morning. Kathy (owner) was a pleasure to work with and quick to respond when needed. Overall this cottage rates an A+ in my book, peace and quiet, waking to the sounds of the waves, friendly people, never slept so good and did I mention the view and pumping surf right out front."
