  • A Wonderful Rental Unit

"Honua Kai 829 is a wonderful unit for a great vacation stay on Maui. The beds and furniture we conmfortable, the kitchen had contemporary appliances and was well stocked with tools and equipment. Except for food, the managers provided everything needed to stay comfortably. However, the beach at the property is a bit rocky, and not the best for swimming, although the sand is great. The pools were also great! Overall, this was a very good stay on Maui, even though we went to the beach at the Westin for a day. The management company was great to deal with, and responded quickly to our requests. Overall, this is a great unit and we would consider staying here again if we need 3 bedrooms."

  • Fabulous ocean views--exactly what we wanted

"Exactly what we wanted for this trip--close to the water, fabulous ocean views from a wonderful shady lanai. We saw whales in the distance and turtles swimming near the sea wall every day. Beautiful sunsets. Good view of Molokai when it is clear. Nice size unit for two of us. I wished for a king size bed but found the queen bed quite comfortable. Quiet complex (except for the two days they were laying new tile on the lanai next door). Laundry facilities across the street in the clubhouse were useful for a couple of loads. Though we didn't use them the unit was stocked with 2 chairs, an umbrella, swim fins and maybe more (sand toys?). Also there were two beach towels! We also found binoculars in the drawers as we were checking out...wish we had found them sooner. Ocean breezes were nice, it has AC but we didn't use it. We liked the little beach to the south, within walking distance though we like swimming and snorkeling better at other beaches. First time in Kahana--nice little community. Good central location for hubby to play golf at Kapalua and for me to take whale trips out of Lahaina. We did find ourselves driving to Lahaina a lot for restaurants, boat trips, shopping, etc. Be aware of a couple of possible negatives. The ocean front condos are located between the ocean and the road, literally 5-10 feet from the ocean and perhaps 15-20 feet from the road. Both can be quite noisy. The traffic did not bother me at night, and I enjoyed the sound of the waves but this might be too loud for some. (Waves hitting a sea wall are louder than waves on sand.) Also--there are two "spotlights"/security lights just outside this unit (and the units next door.) The light at night was bothersome to hubby... The kitchen was well stocked (though we didn't cook a lot). Barbecue and picnic table in common area used by neighbors looked fun. Updated kitchen and bathroom was great."
