"We stayed her for a week in March 2016. Friendly owners, adorable kids and pets. Nicely updated bathroom and shower. the fans were perfect at this time of year, might not be enough without A/C in the summer months, but I see that this update is planned for 2016. The Cottage has a linear footprint, which might appear to be a liability until you factor in that all rooms open onto the Lanai, which is the real hub of this living space. Don't expect a sterile Hilton, it feels like a real home.Part of it's charm is the secluded garden; expect to meet the occasional garden denizen; everything from insects and geckoes to Brazilian cardinals. Very short (half block) stroll to a lovely beach. past a corner store with old Hawaiian atmosphere.Good value for $$"

  • Bike to Kailua beach

"Surf Hale was in great location, 5 min walk to Kailua beach on Lanikai end. Cute old style beach studio with charming lani & garden in quiet neighborhood. Full fridge & stove, stocked with coffee & creamers. Great to have access to bikes & beach chairs. Carly & Jeff very helpful and easy to communicate with."

  • Great views, spacious, could use some fixes

"We were pleasantly surprised by the incredibly beautiful views offered by this suite. The owner - Denise, was very nice, and as other reviewers mentioned, she left chocolates and macadamia nuts for us to enjoy, as well as beach towels, beach chairs, a beach umbrella, and a boogy board. The unit was more spacious then the pictures suggest, and it was great to have a full kitchen. We never used the air conditioning in February, as the cross breezes were amazing. Flat screen t.v.s in both rooms and wifi were much appreciated. My only critical feedback is that there are a few things that have 'worn out' in the unit that could use replacing .... Small things that would make a better impression (e.g., one of the lanai chairs was broken, the lanai table rusted and flaking, the pull out bed was broken, the screens on the Windows put up with tape, the shower glass insert doesn't fit, necessitating also the use of a show curtain which awkwardly covers the glass).... All changes that would make it more esthetically pleasing."

  • The Perfect Place for Us

"My wife and I and our two teenage children has the pleasure of staying here in Lanikai in Kailua. We arrived a bit early by accident and surprised the cleaning crew. They were very polite and allowed us to drop off our luggage while we went grocery shopping to stock the fridge. The house was very beautiful and was just perfect for our family of 4. I had the pleasure of being the first to use the brand new Weber grill Nancy has purchased and had installed. Everything was very clean, the queen bed was supportive for me and my back, there were no bugs anywhere, and even though there was no AC we were very comfortable, especially at night. The Lanikai beach was amazing. The sand was almost like powder and so soft on my tootsies, plenty of room and was never crowded. Buzz's restaurant just down the street was amazing, make sure you get the Calamari steak mmmm. I would definitely stay with Nancy again, she is a wonderful hostess and really friendly."
