"Stayed here for about a week with my husband and 4 year old son, and had a lovely time. I was expecting it to be in a single family neighborhood, but it is nestled in with 3 other duplexes and apartment buildings. The locals were all welcoming and helpful, and our son enjoyed playing with the kids in the street. We stayed in unit A which is next to the parking lot, so there isn't really a yard. One of the neighbors has a truck with a broken muffler, so we chose to close the dual pane windows at night and turn on the AC units to create white noise due to his early departure. Otherwise we kept the windows open and felt the trade winds.
The unit is just as shown in the photos, newly renovated and in excellent condition. There were some things we had to figure out on our own, since there is not a "welcome/instruction notebook". For example- we found the clothes pins below the kitchen sink, but did not know which clothesline was ours to use. We simply asked a neighbor and he kindly showed us where to hang our clothes. I believe that things will get better stocked as the owners get accustomed to hosting VRBO occupants, when we arrived there was a trash bin, but no trash bags, as well as a paper towel holder with no paper towels. We went to make a salad one night and found no large bowls, so we improvised and used a large pot instead. My husband wanted a reading lamp in the bedroom, so we purchased one and left it there for others to use. We were hoping there would be beach towels and toys for our son, as many other VRBO places offer, but there was only one beach towel and a bamboo mat. Again, we went out and bought a sand bucket with shovel and a fire truck toy that we left for other kids to enjoy.
The sofa pulls open for another bed, which we didn't need, but it was comfortable and easy to relax. There is no dishwasher, but a nice dish drying mat that does the job. You can rinse your feet outside before entering which helps minimize sand accumulation, or use the handheld showerhead. The beds were firm and comfortable, there were plenty of bath towels, and loads of storage space. We mostly used the unit as a place to eat and sleep, and it served us well.
The location is only a few blocks walk to Kailua shops, which was fun to explore. I would recommend a compact car due to the tight parking spot. It is a duplex, so if others are using unit B there will be some noise. Hopefully this will be a well-kept unit for years to come."
