  • We will be back

"Net, Net: we loved the house, we loved the location, we adored the beach, Jay and Barbara were great and we'll be back. Just make sure this is the location for you. My son and daughter-in-law live on island, but their place is too small for visitors, so we were looking for a place for 4 that's within easy driving distance of Honolulu where they work but away from most of the tourist stuff. They love the Waimanalo Beach area and we couldn't have lucked out better with Jay and Barbara's cottage. The size is great for 4 people. Its an easy, 3-5 minute walk to the beach with beach access right at the end of the block. The cottage is quiet, clean and well kept, a very workable kitchen, great shower, and an awesome lanai - bright and private. Jay and Barbara were great. House lit up and they were waiting for us when we arrived even though we arrived late in the evening and hours later than expected. They had breakfast foods laid out so we didn't need to worry about shopping. They were great landlords too. If we needed them, they were there and extremely happy to help, but otherwise we felt very much like the land was ours. This area is great for people who want to be away from the tourist areas,. Just be aware there's not much around aside from from a convenience store , a very small grocery store, and a couple of eateries most frequented by the locals, so be prepared to drive for groceries or to restaurants. The residential neighborhood is eclectic range of locals and retirement/vacation homes to some pretty shabby properties. Regardless the neighborhood was quiet, safe and the beach never had more than a couple of people on it as there's much easier access to the beach both day trippers a mile south and a couple of miles north."

  • A romantic and peaceful getaway

"My husband and I are so overwhelmed with gratitude for Skye and her hospitality. From a welcoming "Aloha" greeting to when we first arrived to letting us use her beach gear at Waimanalo beach that is just footsteps away from the property. Skye is kind and helpful in every sense of the word. As for this beautiful Beachside Bungalow that we had the pleasure of staying, my husband and I have never felt more relaxed on a vacation. The location is perfect, as it is away from the congestion that Honolulu or Waikiki can bring, and it's so close to the beach that you can smell the ocean air through the open windows. It is a quick drive from any attractions, and a short walk from any local restaurants you'd like to try. We woke up for the sunrise every morning and watched the sun peak out from Rabbit Island, which is resting on the water on Waimanalo Beach. The neighborhood is beautiful and serene-a must visit. Falling asleep in the mermaid cottage at night allowed me to clear my mind with the sound of the water from the pond which had a couple of spirited goldfish! Everything is easily accessible in this studio. Skye has everything you could need and more if you'd like to cook a little something or prepare something yourself during your stay. There is a fridge and freezer to store groceries or leftovers. There is also a back porch that has seating available next to the pond. Being at this location allowed us to frequent the beach as often as we wanted. It was so convenient to come back and use the outdoor shower to rinse the sand off of us. This was our first Home Away experience and in the future this is all we will be doing for all vacations simply because of the perfect experience Skye helped us have. When we come back to Waimanalo, we will be coming back to stay at Skye's welcoming Mermaid Cottage at the Beachside Bungalow. Overall there is so much privacy staying here, it's a short walk to the beach where you can walk for miles and watch the sun rise, and is a great place to come home to after a day of adventure and exploration. I hope you love it as much as we did. Aloha!"
