  • Beautiful spot, lots of space, close to the beach!

"This home is beautiful, exceptionally clean, and well kept up. It is also very spacious! You are a very short walk to the beach-it is at the end of the short street. They provide everything you could want for your days at the beach-beautiful towels, boogie boards, snorkel gear, sand toys and more. Rachel (manager) was very responsive to our every need and eager to make sure we were comfortable. The house has a unique setup-basically two separate houses connected by laundry area and rec room. Renting the entire place would be absolutely perfect for two families vacationing together...that don't want to be TOO close... ;) Overall it is a great spot to try to blend into the local scene-not touristy, just relaxing! As an added bonus, Hawaii Five O was filming in the next block while we were there. I know that is just luck of the draw, but it was cool to see all the stuff set up. A neighbor even saw "Steve" walking down the street. Again, we would stay here again in a heartbeat. Highly recommended!!!"

  • Great house with caveats

"We can confirm the general positive experience other reviewers had, but want to add some additional impressions: + Location in quaint Waimanalo is perfect. Right on the beach as described by others -- could not be nicer from that perspective + Washer/dryer are pretty new and detergents etc. are provided to guests (but both are outside in a closet) + Kitchen appliances etc. are all in good condition and some are newish (toaster broke during our stay, and Christine replaced it immediately) + The second bedroom upstairs does not have a door, it's more a loft situation (Christine mentioned that to me on the phone, so I was not surprised, but it’s not clear from the pictures/description at all). Couple that stayed up there was quite hot despite ocean breeze and fans. + Air conditioning is only in the smaller bedroom downstairs (small unit not strong enough to cool anything beyond the room) + Access to the main bathroom is actually outside of the house (adjacent to main door though) and has no tub, but a huge shower + We had plenty of bugs (mostly ants, geckos, but also a few roaches and centipedes) inside the house. Kind of expected in a tropics location so close to the beach, but feel like there could be done more to control for it (we did not mention it to Christine, because we did not want to have a treatment done with all of us in the house, but she probably would have arranged something) + Christine was *very* difficult to reach prior to our stay, and the calendar on HomeAway was not up-to-date. We had to change plans because of this, unfortunately. Being used to instant confirmations, we were quite nervous about this place being confirmed in time (deposit check need to be mailed). + The house is overall in an okay condition – feels a bit rundown and things need touchups here and there (e.g. some locks are difficult to operate, walls are dirty etc., trashcans rusty etc.). + They have a small backhouse on the property that one can rent in addition for a small fee (I think she said $50/night or so), but we did not and hence can’t comment on that (they won’t rent it out during main house stays) + Internet worked great and was very fast + There are some homeless people around Waimanalo beach (tents by the official beach park) that sometimes walk around the beach. We never felt unsafe in any way, but made sure to lock the house and arm the alarm system whenever we left."

  • Beautiful Waimanalo was spectacular!

"Staying in Waimanalo at the beautiful home of Nan And Abraham was a true delight. My brother, is wife, my son and his wife and my wife and I all agree that our two week stay was the best vacation we had ever had ( and not long enough). Abe and Nan were always available to give sightseeing pointers and shopping suggestions. We visited my old house in Pearl Harbor, my high school and circled the entire island several times on our many adventures. My wife and I climbed diamond Head and watched surfing competitions at Waimea, Sunset and Pipeline. We enjoyed shopping in the country and at the Swap Meet at Aloha stadium. Of course, "our" beach down the street in Waimanalo is one of the finest in all Hawaii. We relaxed day after day in total awe of this spectacular place. As our hosts, Nan and Abe were superb and ready and willing to do everything in their power to ensure we enjoyed our vacation to the fullest. Our plan is to return next year and stay even longer (if Abe and Nan will have us). Mahalo very much!"

  • Beautiful location on an uncrowded beach

"We had a fabulous time staying here. There are many units to choose from and they can accommodate small groups of 6 (which we had) up to large groups over 20. Waimanalo is very quiet and away from hustle and bustle of Honolulu, which is over run with tourists. Wainmanalo (and Kailua) are beautiful beaches in a peaceful setting. Great for families! The owners were amazing, very helpful with anything we needed and knowledgable of the area. There are a couple of restaurants at the end of the street and a small grocery store in town. Kailua is about 10 min away and has a Target, Whole Foods, large grocery and many restaurants."
