  • Exactly as pictured!

"We just returned from a wonderful week long stay at this beach house. The best way to explain it is that it's exactly as it looks in the photos! The bedrooms were spacious and with 3 teenage children, we felt like we all had our own space to go to after being out sightseeing each day. We enjoyed the common area for family puzzles (which are in the closet, along with a few games) and had a couple of relaxing meals at home. There's a nice assortment of snorkeling equipment for several people, boogie boards, a few life jackets and sand toys stored under the deck. Our favorite thing about this location was the wonderful ocean breeze that came in all 3 of the patio sliding doors! No, you do NOT need air conditioning, as there are plenty of fans and ocean breezes to keep you cool. It is a quiet location, yet just 2 minutes from a Foodland Grocery store and several stores. It takes a bit longer to get places in Hawaii than we expected due to the twisty roads, but when you have an ocean view on one side and gorgeous mountain views on the other, it goes by quickly! Bitsy was responsive when we had a question during our stay and clearly notified us about everything ahead of time. It's less than 10 minutes to Turtle Bay Resort, where we went for a nicer dinner one evening. The beach by the house is private and beautiful!! We enjoyed the monk seal that came up several days to sun herself. The waves on the beach are excellent for boogie boarding, but some other nearby beaches are better for snorkeling. We loved our stay in this relaxing, quiet beach house and would definitely stay there again!!"

  • Perfect site for our family camps

"Our family has a longstanding tradition of camping at Malaekahana -- in one of those rickety, old cabins run by Friends of Malaekahana. We were heartbroken when those cabins were torn down three years ago. Luckily for us, our daughter found this beautiful beach house, just a little ways down the beach from our old stomping grounds. And it is absolutely perfect!!! A previous reviewer described it as "a little run down; could use a makeover." We beg to disagree -- we feel the house is perfect in every way. It's not to supposed to look or feel like a hotel. It's a wonderful beach house where families can have fun together -- enjoying the beach, sharing meals out on the deck overlooking the ocean, playing in the beautiful backyard, roasting marshmallows in the fireplace, making jigsaw puzzles, playing games/cards and just enjoying each others' company. The house is also wheelchair accessible which allowed my husband to join us for our best camp ever. Mahalo! Mari's mom"

  • Awesome Beach House!

"My family and I stayed here this past weekend, we enjoyed our stay so much that my family is already wanting to plan to go back in December! People have to understand that for the price of this rental, it will have "minor" flaws. I say "minor" because if you expect a newer renovation (i.e. renovated within the past 2 years) then there is NO way the rental price for this place would be what it is. If you want a newly remodeled beach rental, I hope you expect to pay at least $800-$1000 a night. Addressing the complaints in previous reviews (which made me have some reservations on renting this rental): -there being too few blankets. My family and I treated this like a camping trip so we brought sleeping bags. However, when arriving we arrived to see the beds were topped off with blankets in each room which would be sufficient enough. During our stay, it was windy and cold but we found ourselves sleeping with our sleeping bag unzipped and not needing to be covered. -The kitchen dirty. During our stay, we found the kitchen to be up to date. The counter tops were clean and there was more than enough dishes and cooking ware for our stay. The only complaint I do have: - There were a LOT of flies but that is out of the owners control. If anything, sliding doors could be added on the other two sliding glass doors to let the breeze in from all angles of the living room and to limit the flies from coming in. Other than those minor flaws, we really did enjoy our stay. The location is AWESOME! The house was totally fine and totally reasonable for the price John charges. This rental totally met our expectations and more. The beach was nice and really appreciated the privacy in front of the house. Can't wait till our next staycation at this rental!"

  • Wonderful, authentic Hawaiian vacation

"We spent a glorious week at Moani Kai which was one of the most beautiful and well maintained vacation rentals I have ever experienced. First, the beach at Malaekahana Bay is three miles of beautiful desolate sandy beach with small waves and completely protected from the fierce breaks of the north shore. The house has recently been completely remodeled with resort quality linens and very comfortable 6 bedrooms. It is located on lush 1 acre lawn with paddle tennis court, hot tub overlooking the ocean and two kitchens so the parents stayed upstairs and the kids and grandkids stayed downstairs. There is a beautiful dining pavilion reminiscent of a Tuscany outdoor dining area with string lights all over looking the ocean. There is a hidden sun tan/massage deck that is next to the ocean but allows privacy to sunbathe in complete privacy. And there is a colorful hammock that we spent hours in enjoying the sound of the breaking surf. The house is well equipped with beach equipment, lounge chairs, boogie boards, children toys who used them in the massive yard next to the ocean. There are two master bedrooms, one upstairs and one downstairs and both have sliding floor to ceiling glass doors overlooking the ocean. We loved the charming caretaker who arranged for private chefs and massages at no extra charge (except a generous tip which she deserved). We loved our nightly bonfires under the moonlit skies. It was a wonderful and authentic Hawaiian vacation. It is the country and not the four seasons. But Malaekahana Bay is Hawaii's best kept secret where most of the houses are owned by the old families of Honolulu for their beach homes. Can't wait to return. I can't think of a better way to experience old Hawaii away from the glitz of Waikiki and a place to enjoy the very special Hawaii we all dream about."
