  • Awesome location

"Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was very clean. I was very happy with the location. I was satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We just returned from a week's stay at Kawela Kai with 2 other couples. The location is awesome, and was central to everything we wanted to do in the area, such as visit the PCC, snorkel at Shark's Cove, Haleiwa shops, North Shore dining (umm, Ted's Bakery was only a few minutes away... a must do), surf lessons, etc. It is beachfront, although not with much of a soft-sand beach... it has a small sand stretch with mostly volcanic rock. You can walk or run the length of the beach on that sand stretch, though, for quite some time. The views are amazing as is the sound of the ocean through the ocean-front windows. And the regular visits by a local rooster... who thankfully didn't crow in the mornings... and a few hens were a fun addition. On the downside, the property is definitely in need of some updates, and a day after arriving we realized the fridge wasn't working. It took another 2 days for the repair, so we had to throw out a case of yogurt and some chicken we had bought. (We found that most things operate on relaxed "Hawaiian time" on the north shore, and the repair guy was no exception.) I will say that our rental agent Sophia was extremely nice and good to work with, even if she couldn't get a repair guy more quickly. Overall, it was a great setup for the 3 couples as our "home base" for activities. We had looked at other properties both on and off the beach, and were very glad we ended up booking Kawela Kai because of the beachfront. Who doesn't want to wake up and go to sleep nightly with the sound of waves, and gorgeous Hawaiian sunrises and sunsets over the ocean?"

  • Nice large house close to the beach

"Large Indonesian-style house. We got slightly lost trying to find it due to the address not being on our printed-out material when we had no internet and had foreign phones with expensive data.We then had a bit of trouble with opening the key-safe but got in OK in the end. Large spacious house with high rafters (some of the high bolts looked pretty loose!). The low wall partitions between the rooms meant that every small noise (think bathrooms and bedrooms) could be heard throughout the house. No air-conditioning made the house very hot in the late afternoon and the roosters started at about 4.00am (a bit later when it was raining). Other than that, the house was comfortable and fairly well supplied (a vacuum cleaner for the glass my daughter broke may have prevented 3 of us getting tiny glass fragments in our feet. There may have been one but we couldn't find it.) Took a couple of days to find the kitchen sink plug and detergent (they were outside!) and there was no dish brush or pot scourer. The kitchen area was spacious and well equipped with crockery and glassware. It was a pity that a kitchen that size didn't have a dishwasher. The bedrooms and bathrooms were well presented, clean and well made up. There was some snorkelling gear, beach umbrella and chairs and boogie boards there for use (which we availed ourselves of). The local beaches were great... Three Tables Beach very handy, Shark's Cove about 500m north had good snorkelling with lots of fish( as in fact did Three Tables) and Waimea Bay had beautiful sand and clear water (and rock jumping for some). The Foodland Pupukea shop was also handy for getting groceries. We had a really good stay and while some things were unable to be resolved (the roosters), an airconditioner and dishwasher would certainly have helped. Overall we still give it 4 stars as it was a great base."

  • Perfect home & location

"This was our first time staying at Debby & Derek's home, the week before X-mas. They were great and welcoming. After spending a week there, I highly doubt we could find a better place. It's located right in the middle of so many great things to do. Some of the highlights are: Very clean and roomy Outdoor shower (with hot water) Huge bathroom and tub A very large hot water heater that never ran out (and we used it a lot) Large washer & dryer to use All kitchen appliances, cookware and utensils you need Internet was pretty good Comfy beds Very quiet Nice private fenced yard BBQ Walk to grocery store (they helped us get discounts and bags that you'll need) Walk to food truck village (this was very cool) Walk to beaches (2 minutes away. Watch sunset every night) Short drive to many other attractions and towns for shops and tours / rentals Neighbors are quiet and nice (not a loud party neighborhood) If you are looking for the get-away feel, but close to fun things, then this is the place to go. We will stay here again the next time we are on the island. The B Family"

  • Home away from home with the perfect Hawaiian experience. Amenities to make your stay comfortable!

"If you'd love a CLEAN, SPACIOUS, COMFORTABLE place to stay with the most incredible view possible- this is the place for you! The living space sits on the 2nd level so you wake up to the front room wall of windows with a spectacular view of the ocean. It's a great location with amenities that make the stay so comfortable. We loved: comfortable beds, Air conditioner, clean washer and dryer on the main floor, new and decorated living space, across the street from the beach, accessible to North Shore AND Honolulu since it's right in the middle, lots of space to sleep! We have 4 children and this home absolutely made the vacation so wonderful. The open floor plan, gated yard with grass area."
