  • A great time in a well stocked house

"The house was well stocked for the 9 of us. We had space for all. This included space for away time, we were never on top of each other. The pool and patio was great and we had all our meals, relaxation and games outside. It is a short distance to the Lagoons, and easy to get around. Jane was fantastic. Thank you"

  • Delightful place

"We genuinely enjoyed this place. The setting right on the ocean is truly remarkable. What a treat and pleasant experience it's been to go to sleep to the sound of the waves crashing on the rocks and wake in the morning to the same soothing alarm clock. One caveat, the accommodations are a bit rustic so if you are looking for POSH, look elsewhere. Having said that, the place was clean and more than adequate. We cooked a number of our meals in to soften the hit of our annual visit to Chef Mavro, one of the most remarkable dining experiences in Honolulu. The full kitchen is adequate for the preparation of any meal and there is no more pleasant setting for eating than at the surfboard bar watching the sea turtles playing in the surf off the backyard. The house is off the beaten track and I initially thought that inconvenient but found it to be no problem once I became familiar with the area. The owner and booking agent were both pleasant and most accommodating."

  • Awesome location

"Can't beat a home away on the beach! Rental is the first floor of this 2-story home minus the garage. Person on second floor had some strange hours, but this didn't interfere with our stay. The rental is two bedrooms, a kitchen, dining area, living room, and 3/4 bath (shower, no tub). Window air conditioner units are in the two bedrooms and ceiling fans in all but the bathroom and living room. The hose and wash-off station half-way between the home and the beach was a necessity to wash the sand off after a beach visit. Even with that, you still get a fair amount of sand indoors. It is easy to sweep off the tile floors with one of the three provided brooms. You'll definitely want to shake out the bathroom rugs during your stay, too. They start nice and clean, but will pick everything off your feet for you. The home was clean when we entered. After just one day, we realized how much effort it would take to clean this home to the level we received it after each visitor. Well done! Beds were comfortable. Multiple pillows accommodate the variety of tastes for firm/soft or thick/thin. The living room sofa is a davenport. A laundry line on the covered patio with clothes pins is great for drying wet items. The washer and dryer are also located here. Note that the front door is also here (west side of the home). We loved playing at the beach and in the water. Just watch for rock and coral. It is pretty shallow (only 1-2 feet) for quite a distance out (20-60 feet). Two folding chairs and three boogy boards made for a lot of fun memories."

  • Oceanside Retreat / Ewa Beach

"Walk out the door, cross the lanai, and you are on the beach and in the water! House has full kitchen & lounging areas up and down, plenty of water eqpt, coolers, gas grill, roomy parking, outdoor (exposed) shower and washer/dryer, and several deck/patio areas up and down. The 5 BRs/3 baths are comfortable and clean. From the beach is a distant view of Honolulu and Waikiki. Each morning we watched the sunrise over the city and Friday night watched the Waikiki fireworks, although we couldn't see much detail. It is about an hour's drive to the North Shore or Windward coast. Shopping (grocery/other) and restaurants are located nearby, even a malasadas truck. Being near Pearl Harbor, military & commercial planes and ships steadily arrive/depart, but the noise is not a factor since the waves pound the beach. (Loved sleeping to that sound!) While an older home, it is clean and updated. The décor is, as expected, beachy. I would recommend the house, but be aware there are some drawbacks. 1. This is a residential section and some of the area is rundown. We didn’t have any serious problems, but some concerns. 2. Morning and evening traffic is heavy. Get caught in the traffic and easily spend 1-2 hours getting to/from sites. 3. The only a/c is in 3 bedrooms. Open the windows and trade winds blow through. But temps in the low 90s made cooking uncomfortable. (After turning off the a/c when away, it was warm when we returned. But, there was always the windy lanai to sit on or the water to jump into!) 4. There is a public beach access alongside the deck/lanai area. That affected privacy somewhat, but wasn’t a real problem. Even with others using “our” beach, it wasn’t crowded until the weekend. 5. The sand is partially covered by vines. The vine produced pretty little flowers, but I didn’t care for it. Also, a large tree in the center of the lanai, while offering great shade, blocked the view and littered the deck. There is nice patio furniture, but we didn’t feel comfortable eating out there because of all the droppings from the tree and the birds! 6. From upstairs, to the beach required going through a downstairs bedroom or out the front door and around the side of the house. Overall, it was nice. If not expecting luxury and frills and getting out later in the day (or not at all), this is a good place. Laurie and Danielle were great and checked on us throughout our stay, even brought us a scrumptious Chocolate Haupia Cream Pie. We enjoyed our stay."
