  • Great Private Room Very Close to the Beach

"I did not realize how close this studio is to the beach. It is on the ocean side of the road and it is less than 2 minutes walk to the beach in two directions. The studio is attached to the main house but it is fenced off and has its own private entrance. It was a very comfortable situation with as much privacy as anywhere you could find. The owners seemed like they were very relaxed people. We only met them when we arrived and did not see them again and we did not get a chance to say thank you! There is a little breakfast place across the street. The studio is actually pretty spacious and has very high ceilings. Everything was clean and ready for us when we arrived. It felt very safe. I would not have expected anything more. I would fully recommend this place."

  • We found heaven at The Makaha Beach Cabanas

"Aloha! Our stay at the Makaha Beach Cabanas was wonderful! Hope was there to greet us and made us feel at home. The unit was just the right amount of space for the two of us. It's bright, clean, quiet, well maintained, and fully loaded. So all you need to bring is you bathing suit! The best part is it overlooks the ocean-- it's so close, you fall asleep listening to the sound of waves hitting the shore. Every night we ate dinner on the balcony table and watched the sun set. It was so perfect, we felt like we were in a movie. The beach is big and sandy, the water is incredible, and it's never crowded. The apartment building is inhabited by both locals and tourist alike for a nice mix. The locals are very nice. If you're like us and don't want to rent a car, fear not because transit rocks. There's a bus stop a minute walk away from the complex and buses run every 12 minutes or so. They've also got 24 hour security, which made us feel even safer. In my opinion, Makaha is the best place to vacation in Oahu and Hope is the best person to stay with. It's not overly crowded and full of tourists like Honolulu is. Needless to say, our trip was nothing short of perfect."

  • Classic holiday home

"For the traveler who prefers to be in amongst the locals, away from the retail madness, and is happy in comfortable family style accommodation. We loved the location, loved the fact that this house was fully equipped with everything we have at home. The West side definitely has better drier weather. Also loved the fact it wasn't too fancy and we could feel totally relaxed. All the beach toys were a big plus - they even have beach shoes in all sizes! Suggest guests understand the location, the local attractions, are not bar hoppers or restaurant goers and if planning to be in the water have an understanding and respect of the sea. Tom let us have a later check out so we were able to clean up without the stress of a time frame. It's one of those places where you visit once and then just become a regular guest. Love it!!"

  • Great property, great location, "real Oahu"

"We had a lovely time near the northwestern tip of Oahu. The area is convenient to everywhere on the island by vehicle (45 mins to 1 hr), with a relaxing drive through the agricultural part of the island, hitting only a little traffic on the way to Honolulu or elsewhere SW/SE. The ocean out the back door, beaches just down the road, mountains on the other side of the street, seeing sunrise/sunsets both from your backyard --it all made for an amazing stay. The property was in great shape, clean, as listed, and was plenty of room for our party of six. It was warm inside after coming back in the afternoons, but as soon as the oceanside doors were open, the house was instantly cool again. The kids even got a little cold at night, so heat isn't a problem, although the humidity takes a few days to get used to. Plenty of extra amenities made the trip easier: beach towels, boogie boards, cooler--these definitely came in handy. Kitchen was well-stocked (even a blender for smoothies/milkshakes when we weren't eating shave ice). Large DVD selection if you want to spend time indoors (this is Hawaii). The kids would have liked a backyard beach, but still amazing views. Front fence helped with privacy and car noise from semi-busy road. Area felt safe with two kids camps nearby. Great hikes 2 & 3 miles away, quickly rising to amazing ocean views in the mountainous state park across the road and a 2.5 mi hike that gives amazing sunrise views from the absolute northwest tip of the island. Each of these trailheads is accessible by car in 5 mins--some of the premier hikes on the island. For hang-gliding or sky-diving, the airfield across the street is where many go on the island for this--staying here avoids the hour drive from Waikiki. The North Shore was 30 minutes away, Waikiki 50 mins with traffic, Turtle Bay (snorkeling), Turtle Beach (sea turtles) 25-30 mins away on the north shore. Oceanfront horseback riding & polo 1/2 mile south. Beautiful ocean sunsets anywhere along the road 1-3 miles north to the tip if you aren't satisfied with the one out your back door. Plan ahead for groceries: 22 mins to Foodland, but Costco right off H2N is 30 mins away (cheapest gas in Oahu). For those seeking the "real local" experience, with activities that won't be packed with busloads of tourists getting dumped off with you, this is the place to stay to hit those remote stops. We'd stay here again when we're in Oahu, and recommend others stay here."
