"Ok, where to begin. This vacation was booked last minute. The easy part was getting the flights, it was the 'other stuff' that was stressing me out. We knew we wanted Oahu, traveling with 4 young boys we wanted to land and stay put. Oahu also offered loads of activities. We chose Ko Olina (Turtle Bay was also in the running). My neighbor books Disney vacations so she immediately reserved a suite for us at Aulani. After reading a bazillion reviews we decided to research other options as I am not a huge Disney fan and it was crazy expensive for a familyof 6 for 10 nights. This was our first time with VRBO and it was perfect. I had to contact Michelle with a few questions and she was very prompt with responses and answered all my questions. This was hugely helpful because I was on a serious time constraint.
So. We landed, rented a minivan (whoop whoop) and drove to the resort. Just beautiful. Perfect size, not some ridulous high rise. The property manager greeted us and gave us the cards and went through everything and off he went. Weirdly enough, he lived in our town for many years before moving to HI...his children went to the same elementary school as mine are at now. What?? North Hampton, NH, if you're interested. Condo had everything. Well, except a wine opener!! But we managed. If I want to get super picky....the lights in the hall didn't work and we were missing cover sheets on two of the beds. But that's it. I called the property manager 3 times for questions but he never returned my call. Not sure why but really, it was no big deal. I also wanted to make sure I knew how to leave the condo even though we pay for a cleaning service.
We had a magical vaca. I'm not a spa mom or sun bathing mom and with a gaggle of boys, one can't be. Hiking was incredible, especially Koko Head Trail. Not long, not too difficult, just amazing. Manoa Falls is also recommended. Snorkeling in the cove was fabulous, everyday! Paradise Cove Luau was touristy, wouldn't totally advise. My boys loved it though, but my hubby and I, not so much. But I highly highly think ClimbWorks zip lining was the BEST. A splurge but worth every penny. Every turn we took when driving revealed another gorgeous beach and scenery. We explored every inch of the island. Honolulu traffic does suck. All reviews were spot on.
Also....the Villas pool is fantastic. They even offer a sweet adult lap pool which kicks butt for those who swim. Villas are not crowded which was the best. Boom."
