  • Peaceful spot for family getaway

"This home was a wonderful spot for a restful getaway for my family. The house was very clean and the owners had thought of every detail. I actually over packed not knowing that so many extras would be there: the were nightlights, portable lanterns (flashlights), some kids' sand toys and the kitchen was well stocked. We wanted to enjoy the outdoors and beach as much as possible so we cooked each day so as not to have to go out and try to find a place to eat and wait etc. and everything we needed was available. The owner was very friendly and met us upon arrival to show us the property and answer any questions. The pictures don't do the house justice -- its a quaint mid-century design with some fun, funky features. Plenty of space. The beds were all comfortable. The location is wonderful: step off the driveway and pass 2 or 3 houses and you're at the path to the beach. With younger kids and stuff to tote, the short walk was ideal. We enjoyed the beach and water every day. We visited both the National Park (West Beach is very close and there are many spots to hike and great dune walks ) and the State Park (the 3 Dune Challenge was definitely challenging but worth it) and spent time on the neighborhood beach each afternoon. The beach was very nice, soft sand and not crowded. We returned to the house to clean up (ground level bathroom/shower was so nice to clean up the kids as soon as we got inside) and have dinner and walked to see the beautiful sunset each evening. The residential neighborhood was very quiet, even on a busy holiday weekend. We would recommend this property and would stay here again. It would be fun to have a longer stay and take the train in to Chicago for a day."

  • Great house, close to beach; several areas for socializing. Kitchen exceptionally well-equipped.

"The house is clean, cute and well-cared for. The kitchen has everything you could want. Access to the house was straightforward. I didnt meet Rebecca, but she responded promptly to my communications and left several nice, personal touches such as a personalized welcome upon our arrival. There are several nice places to sit, socialize, play games etc-- even a fish tank. More tvs than any household could possibly want. 2 windowless basement rooms are decorated tastefully and comfortably. I slept in one of these and it was all good. Walk to the beach in a few blocks and the beaches are endless, sparsely populated. The swimming was great and refreshing with a unique view of industrial Gary with the Chicago skyline in the distance on a clear day. Somewhat otherwordly and just the kind of thing I like. The neighborhood was quiet and Miller is a nice place to walk or ride a bike. I have vacationed in Miller Beach several times and enjoy its low-key, ambiance with nature abounding and the city right next door. If you eat at the Beach Cafe, the cevaps (Eastern European sausage without a casing) were fabulous."

  • Incredible family friendly home for our last minute accommodations!

"I don't even know where to begin! We were looking for a place to stay for two nights on our way from NE to NY with our family of 7. It was very last minute (we called from the road and gave only 6 hours advance notice!) Marian was so friendly and wiling to help me in my moment of desperation. Our whole family was amazed when we walked into her lovely home. We have kids ranging in age from 8 months to 11 years and this house was absolutely perfect (and clean!). The moment we walked in the door the kids went straight for the bookshelves where they found the best types of toys, very neat and organized (and easy to put back away when they were done playing). The pictures don't do this home justice. The decor was so much fun and looked like it was done by a professional. It had a fun retro feel. The whole home was so bright and airy, including the basement which was perfect for our kids! It was full of beds on wheels so they had fun pushing them all together for their movie night. We took advantage of the beach chairs and the walk to the beach couldn't have been easier. We had the entire private beach to ourselves and the kids had a blast! I enjoyed lounging in my chair and watching the fun. We enjoyed hotdogs at Depot Hot Dogs (which is surrounded by a lovely park like yard) and my husband and I enjoyed take out from the Miller Bakery Cafe. We look forward to our next stay at the Cool Beach House!"

  • Stunning setting, stunning house

"We spent a week at the dream retreat with my extended family, for a family reunion of sorts. It was a great week, from the first moments coming into the house, getting a tour with the owner, to the amazing sunrises and sunsets from the hot tub, to the sound of the wind howling and waves crashing on the shorline. The house is an amazing piece midwest architecture, with amazing natural light, seclusion, and the beds on different levels. We loved using their tablet directory to map out our hiking and beach walks and find great restaurants, shopping, and fun things to do in the area. Jim and his wife are kind and amazing people who went above and beyond to make sure everything was great. Thanks so much!"
