  • VERY nice getaway for rest & relaxation

"This was a quick getaway for our 16th wedding anniversary and we couldn't have chosen a better place, or area, for a quiet place out in the country, but still close to the most amazing place in America for foodies like us! We decided against Hot Springs, AR, and decided to go south, instead. We had one very high expectation, though, and that was some good coffee, which was provided by Jen there at the house. We made a cup not long after arriving and used the handy milk frother. I sat down on the little sofa in the sunroom, took a sip and my cares immediately slipped away. The house was just beautiful, clean, & had plenty of room. The kitchen had everything we needed and I especially enjoyed the library of books. The local places we recommend, and enjoyed ourselves, are Joie de Vivre, Café des Amis, The Blue Dog Café, Prejean's & Reve (since we needed to go there to purchase more of the delicious coffee Jen had introduced us to). We took a morning swamp tour on Sunday, had brunch afterwards in town, & took a long peaceful nap at the house before leaving town. Bliss. Jen was a remarkable host, very sweet & thoughtful. I can't say enough how happy my husband & I are to have stumbled upon this quiet place to retreat to as often as we get the chance. ~ James & Crystal"

  • Bigger and better than pics show!

"Our family of four (my wife and I and two kids age 15 and 13) stayed 6 nights (Saturday, July 9 to Friday, July 15) and were welcomed by "liquid sunshine" (rain) as we arrived Saturday afternoon. The house is much larger than the pics show. You enter a hallway at the entrance that leads to the three bedrooms straight ahead (with master at end of hallway). If you veer right upon entry, there's a small alcove with a bookshelf filled with books. To your left, as you go this direction, is a living room with a huge coffee table upon which we played many games that we brought with us. Straight ahead is the kitchen and the door to the pool outside. To one side is the dining table and behind it is a sitting area overlooking the pool with a big window. The kitchen was big enough where the four of us could be in it at the same time and not run into one another. Through the kitchen, you enter the walking pantry where the coffee maker is located and beyond the pantry is the laundry room with a full washer/dryer (bring your own detergent/etc). The kitchen had plenty of dishes and glasses (may want to bring plastic cups if you have kids younger than mine). There was also a tv room outside the master bedroom that had a tv with limited channels and a poor signal so we didn't watch it much at all. The master bath had plenty of space as the walk in closet reached by walking thru it was huge! Overall, we truly enjoyed our time in Breaux Bridge! The salt water pool was refreshing and we could barely pull my 13 yo out of it! We made almost all our breakfasts at the house and about five other meals. We visited Lafayette (15 mins away) a couple of days with the highlight being breakfast at The French Press. We also visited New Orleans (2 1/2 hours away) with the obligatory breakfast of delicious beignets at Cafe du Monde and muffulettas for lunch at Central Grocery. Finally, we saw the Rosedown plantation in Saint Francisville (1 hr away) and were awed by the picturesque gardens and home! This rental home sits between the owners' home and their business so we met them and had several short pleasant conversations (so if getting away from everything is your goal, this may not fit your plans but didn't bother us). In Breaux Bridge, definitely eat at Buck and Johnny's for gumbo as Jennifer suggested but also have shrimp poboys at Le Cafe as they're phenomenal! Loved the home and layout as we were able to gather together but also be apart when desired. Thanks, Angelles!!!"

  • Serene and Clean

"My husband, dogs and I recently stayed at this cozy, one-bedroom condo. It was a lovely landing spot after a long drive to Lafayette from Austin. We were immediately wowed by how clean the property was, as we're both a bit fanatical about that sort of thing. Loads of clean, white towels were stocked in the bathroom. A bottle of wine welcomed us from the kitchen counter. The neighbors were friendly, as one might expect when visiting Southern Louisiana. Gordon was a kind and gracious host and even delivered a large bath mat-as he was concerned that we might not have one-though we had two clean, smaller mats! In some cases, more is more and greatly appreciated. The building is a short drive to Girard Park for relaxing walks with the pups. We would definitely stay again."

  • An amazing B&B in Abbeville LA on the banks of the Vermilion River

"I hope I can in words do justice to Bayou Rose Cottage B&B to convey just what a very special place this is to visit. I've now stayed there twice. Once with my adult son and recently with my husband. It's such a special B&B. The separate fully equipped one bedroom cottage is perfect for adults wanting a 'home away from home'. A full size kitchen and living room area with sleeper-convertible couch, large bathroom with washer and dryer, bedroom with large closet and very comfortable bed. An attached covered porch and a nearby private large deck/dock on the Vermillion River provide some very special places for morning coffee and evening beverage of choice. Truly one of the most fully equipped B&Bs that I have ever found. A newly completed excellent near-by restaurant offers delicious and convenient dining with great atmosphere. A perfect morning light breakfast treat (including boudin) and a fully equipped kitchen with snacks and condiments is all part of what creates a very special 5 star experience with Anne and Mike, who are also very knowledgeable about the many nearby wonderful area attractions. I look forward to one day returning to Bayou Cottage Rose again....and again. :) Dorothy"
