  • Peaceful and private vacation home near so much on Blue Hill Peninsula

"Just returned from a 2-week stay at this home on the Blue Hill Peninsula and we had a lovely vacation there! We arrived to a clean home ready for us with a loaf of bread and veggies from the garden ready for picking. Sleeping was easy, beds were comfortable, bathroom was roomy for our family and the house was nicely laid out for moving around, playing board games, spending time together or finding a spot to read in quiet. Wifi was, of course, available and used by all of us but we also played board games and got out every day to go somewhere new. But my favorite part of vacation is how I feel when I stay somewhere and on that count this home was perfect: there was a garden with fresh veggies to pick, a lovely path to the Bagaduce River where we were able to swim, and if you had kayaks to launch you could. The meadows were exactly what our dog needed and she was as happy as could be. Louise was attentive and very nice, very friendly, and responded to my questions (even when I repeated them) very quickly. The house was nicely laid out with windows situated so that you could take advantage of the evening breezes and everything was very comfortable. The stars at night were a surprise - there is very little ambient light and the sky becomes a wonder to look at. It could not have been more perfect for us and I am grateful to have rented from someone so easy to deal with. Art work all over the house made for a nice, personal touch and we even used most of the musical instruments! Games, farmer's markets, gorgeous hikes and places to kayak, swim, dine and take boat excursions are everywhere both on the peninsula and on nearby Deer Isle (which we love). Acadia National Park was only an hour away and we were able to get there several times for biking, hiking, swimming and some dinner after. Wine, good food, easy shopping, galleries and the nicest book store all within 10 to 30 minutes (good grocery store was the closest at about 10 minutes, Blue Hill galleries and lovely small town only a little further, Deer Isle about 20 to 35 minutes depending on where you want to go on the Islands). PLENTY to do in the area, and we did as much as we could."

  • A truly spectacular vacation spot

"My family spent 5 nights at this Walker Pond home and are so grateful for the experience. Sharon was a terrific host – she answered questions we had before we arrived and gave us a good sense of the house so that we knew what to expect. The location of the house was perfect for us- we spent two days just playing on the pond and 2 days up in Acadia taking in the sites. Walker Pond is absolutely gorgeous – clean, warm, and perfect for a swim or a paddle around the lake. The house is as comfortable as it is beautiful. The kitchen is well equipped and we were able to enjoy nice meals overlooking the lake. Foosball was a popular past time but we also just enjoyed reading and spending time as a family. We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect vacation."

  • Nice Place, nice landlord

"We spent a week for the summer vacation there. The apartment is well-maintained, clean and quiet. The landlord is very nice and provides all the helps you need when you are away from home. The laundry is also free to use. The small town is pretty and people are friendly. I fully recommend it. Wei."

  • Best July 4th Ever

"We rented this place before and loved it so much we came back. The 4th of July celebrations in Castine were an unexpected perk as we had a spectacular view of the fireworks from the deck of the cottage. There was also a very sweet parade on the town green with children in creative, homemade costumes, a band concert, and a sailboat race we watched in the afternoon. The festivities were old-fashioned and small town. The owners checked with us to make sure we had everything we needed. We'll be back again."
