  • Lovely cottage, great location!

"My husband and I with our two boys (ages 15 and 13) stayed in this cottage for a week and loved it! None of us wanted to leave! The cottage is very clean, charming, and quaint. It is clear that the owners take pride in their home. We really appreciated their personalized binder (filled with helpful instructions and suggestions) and the many guide books they provided to enhance our vacation. We enjoyed restaurants they recommended, Cafe This Way and The Side Street Cafe, and when we didn't want to head out to eat we found the kitchen to be well-stocked with quality dishes, glassware, and cookware. One of my favorite spots in the cottage was the balcony off of the master bedroom. After a morning of hiking, I always found it to be such a relaxing spot. I almost felt like a kid in a tree house! The cottage is in a great location. The neighborhood is quiet and peaceful and the neighbors are just as friendly and nice as can be. From the cottage, it is just an easy walk to the shops and restaurants. Additionally, the cottage is on the southern end of town making it is easy to get to multiple Acadia Park entrances to see some of the best sights the park has to offer (Cadillac Mountain, Great Head Trail, Thunder Hole, etc.). While writing this review, I think it is important to note that this is a very, charming old cottage, but please know that brings some characteristics with it. Not all of the floors are level and the staircase is narrow and not level too. While that only enhanced the charm for us, those with physical limitations might want to be informed ahead of time. We can't wait to return to this cottage and Bar Harbor! For us it truly was a wonderful place to be!"

  • Great Bar Harbor Stay!

"Our girls getaway was great at the Acadia Getaway House! Nice house layout, private patio and yard, super Weber grill for easy dinners after a day biking, shopping and sightseeing at Acadia National Park. The House is at the perfect location for carriage trails, entrance to Cadillac Mountain and downtown Bar Harbor - nice Catholic Church for Sunday Mass was an added bonus. Owners are easy to work with and very responsive - I would recommend this property for anyone wishing to experience the beauty of Bar Harbor and surrounding areas! It was a perfect week living in a comfortable home surrounded by nature, fresh air, nice people and as much exercise, restaurants and scenic beauty that you could handle!"

  • Comfortable time in this clean and quiet duplex

"We had a wonderful stay in this home. It was well-cared for and the owner was great to work with. He was prompt to respond to questions and had helpful information for our stay. He is an honest and straight-up guy and clearly cares that your stay is good. The house is a two story duplex with three bedrooms. The beds were comfortable as was the living room furniture. The house was very comfortable to just hang out in. The only reason we deducted one star is because the kitchen is very small. That would not be a problem for those who don't intend to do a lot of cooking, but it made meal preparation and clean up more challenging since we did most of our meals at home for our family of four. They did have plenty of nice dishes and tableware as well as a lobster pot for those who would want to prepare their own. The small toaster oven even has a convection setting, although it is obviously too small for baking a chicken, making a pie, etc. The owner has provided 5 bicycles for renters to use, and we had a great ride around the Acadia Park on the Schoodic Peninsula side. There was no way to adjust the heights of the seats for those bikes needing a wrench, and so it would be a nice addition to have one available. A couple of the bikes need a little work on the gear shift mechanisms, especially if one plans to take a really long ride. They worked well enough for our shorter tour, and we had a good time. They have a new fire pit in the back, and although we bought wood to use, never got to try it out. We left the wood for the next renters, but it does look like it would be a fun place to sit around and relax in the evening. There is a small grocery store in Winter Harbor with decent fruits and vegetables, and they have a small but nice farmer's market on Tuesday mornings. The Hannaford grocery in Ellsworth has everything you can want. Winter Harbor is very small, quiet and cute. We ate a really nice lunch at the J. M. Gerrish restaurant. It took about an hour to get to Mt. Desert Island where we did a lot of hiking. We appreciated coming back to the peacefulness of Winter Harbor after the hustle in Bar Harbor and the Park. We would definitely recommend this home and would be happy to stay there again. It is comfortable to live in and the owner is excellent."
