  • Great Rental - Amazing Location

"Our extended family stayed at this lovely Maine home last summer for two weeks, and we liked it so much that as we drove home we arranged to rent it again next summer. We rented both the house and the cottage (which was perfect for guests visiting us for a day or two.) Both were very clean, comfortable, and nicely appointed. The house has everything you need; kitchen supplies, beach and bath towels, bikes, you name it. Claudia was a great landlord. She was easy to reach, pleasant to talk to, and addressed all our questions and concerns in a timely manner. We were a little surprised by the hand held shower in the upstairs bathroom, but its large size was very comfortable and the downstairs bathroom was quite nice and modern. When the back door lock broke during our stay, Claudia took care of it immediately even though she was away on her own vacation. Our favorite thing about the house was the front porch. The view is spectacular! We loved how easy it was to walk across the street, down the short dirt road to the beach, and put in our kayaks or just play with the kids. The location was perfect for us. We also loved being on the “quiet side” and so close to the town of Southwest Harbor. We would highly recommend this quintessential Maine home!"

  • Adorable cabin, beautiful coast, flower meadow and sunsets, 3 kayaks!

"Our family of 4 (plus Lula the dog) LOVED Driftwood Cottage - we can't wait to come back again. It was cozy, clean, well stocked, and had everything we needed for a perfect week in a gorgeous part of Maine. Not only did we enjoy walks on the quiet lanes and nearby nature trails, and kayaking along the lovely Bagaduce River, but we discovered the wonderful nearby treasures like the Tinder Hearth wood-burning pizza and superb bakery on a pretty farm five minutes away; the fun short trips to nearby towns like historic Castine and Stonington at the tip of Deer Isle; and easy access to Belfast in one direction or Acadia National Park in the other. Rustic rural area yet relatively easily accessible, we also found incredibly nice neighbors and fellow travelers all around the area."

  • True Taste of Country

"This was our first visit to this part of Maine, and we fell in love with the whole Mount Desert Island area but especially with Acadia. We enjoyed the view from Cadillac Mountain, but especially loved getting up close and personal with the ocean, at Thunder Hole and at the tide pools at Wonderland. We went on an awesome whale-watching tour out of Bar Harbor and enjoyed walking around, soaking up the touristy atmosphere of the town. We also made a trip to Fort Knox and the Penobscot Observatory, both of which were impressive. Since we were only in the area for 3 days, we spent most of our time out and about, but what time we did have at the house was great - it had everything we needed except drinking water, which was easily remedied. The property is beautiful and there isn't a neighbor in sight, which was nice. Unfortunately we didn't get to see any wildlife around the house, just a woodpecker and other birds. There's an extensive collection of books of all sorts in the front hall for your reading pleasure, along with games and a few toys. The house was a comfortable temperature for the most part; the fans came in handy for making the bedrooms comfortable for sleeping. The new refrigerator is freaking awesome, and it was so handy to have a washer and dryer on site. We also really appreciated having a cooler and some already frozen "blue ice" we could borrow. On the downside, the downstairs shower didn't have much water pressure (I didn't try the upstairs one), and the water tends to smell a bit . . . cottage-y . . . but no big deal. It was a bit inconvenient not to have cell phone service, but the homeowners have made sure there is a landline available. Wi-fi wassn't working great for us - sometimes fast, sometimes slow, and sometimes not at all. Same with Netflix. Nothing that was a deal breaker, and we'd come back in a heartbeat to enjoy this taste of Maine country living and to be so conveniently located by Bar Harbor and Acadia."

  • Great place and surroundings

"We found this cottage while searching on-line and it was as described and absolutely perfect in lots of ways. The pictures show the place very well, the location and overall description were accurate. We were looking for a low key, low stress country cottage experience, and this was it. The property has all necessities there for you, including a great set of spices and kitchen tools, making things very relaxing and easy. Lawn games and garden to cut flowers from too. The owners were quite helpful with emails and lists of suggestions of things to see and do, and you will find library with informational books about local plants, animals, and Maine history related books in the cottage as well."
