  • Absolutely a must stay!

"We had an excellent stay in this gorgeous suite located perfectly for our sightseeing adventures throughout Mt. Desert Island, Bar Harbor, Ellsworth and the surrounding areas. We were close enough for most of our activities to be a 5-10 minute drive into Bar Harbor or Acadia National Park, but were pleasantly secluded when we wanted to stop and rest. Joe and Monique were incredibly kind, friendly and accommodating throughout our week-long trip. The suite had everything we could possibly want and need and we enjoyed several nights by the fire in the beautifully crafted courtyard. I would highly recommend this property for vacationing in the Bar Harbor area, especially for couples looking for a romantic getaway, and we hope to return sometime soon!"

  • So peaceful and relaxing!

"If you're looking for quiet seclusion you can't do much better than this log cabin tucked away down a long driveway and right on Molasses Pond. It was a real pleasure hearing the water lapping at the shore right outside the door, and the dock was a great place to enjoy my morning coffee. The cabin is rustic and had everything we needed in case we wanted to cook, and the linens and towels were clean. You won't receive many channels with the antenna, and there is no wifi, but there are movies and games available. Our cell phone service (AT&T) was spotty at best, to completely unavailable many times, which adds to the sense of isolation. The cabin is about 30-35 minutes from the nearest town of any size (Ellsworth) depending on traffic, and about an hour from Bar Harbor. Something to be aware of: if you use a GPS to take you to points North (Lubec, for example) you may find yourself going left out of the driveway and over about 3 miles of dirt roads before hooking up with the paved George's Pond Road. Some sections of the dirt roads are more like Jeep roads, and might give some low clearance cars some trouble. To avoid this, make sure you turn on your Off Road avoidance feature on your GPS. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay here and would definitely return if we wanted the solitude again. Oh, and we stayed in Cabin 1, which sits a little farther back then Cabin 2. The driveway is shared so you actually drive through Cabin 2's front yard to get to Cabin 1, so I think Cabin 1 is a better choice of the two. If you need wifi, cell phone service (which is actually spotty through much of Maine anyway), or to be closer to the Down East attractions you may want to stay closer to Ellsworth. Otherwise, Cry of the Loon is about as peaceful as you can get. Thank you!"

  • Wow. What a comfortable and peaceful cottage!

"We ventured from So. California to spend the first 2 weeks of October (2016) for fall foliage and the local lobster. This cottage was a perfect choice. First, the owners were very easy to work with and extremely helpful with directions and what activities are in the area. The cottage was very clean, spacious and comfortable. The master bedroom windows looked out on the Frenchman Bay. In the morning, while in bed, you can see sunrise. And at night you see see the stars through the skylights. I really appreciated the reading lights by the very comfortable king bed (plenty of pillows for reading in bed). The steam shower was a real treat after a full day of touring Acadia (and those chilly mornings!). The kitchen was well equipped with everything you could need. Even pots to boil lobster (it is so easy to buy lobster, we didn't bother). We did steam purchased clams. The stove / oven worked well. We used the oven and made baked apples multiple times. Soap, laundry soap and plenty of towels were provided. The clothes washer and dryer are new, and it was nice to do some laundry as needed. The fire place was very efficient warming up the cottage and relaxing. The whole front of the cottage has window view of Frenchman Cove, and looking towards Bar Harbor. The drive to Mount Desert Island/Acadia Park was an easy drive. The fall foliage was just amazing. What a wonderful stay we had. I highly recommend this cottage for a wonderful visit to Acadia National Park."
