  • So peaceful and relaxing!

"If you're looking for quiet seclusion you can't do much better than this log cabin tucked away down a long driveway and right on Molasses Pond. It was a real pleasure hearing the water lapping at the shore right outside the door, and the dock was a great place to enjoy my morning coffee. The cabin is rustic and had everything we needed in case we wanted to cook, and the linens and towels were clean. You won't receive many channels with the antenna, and there is no wifi, but there are movies and games available. Our cell phone service (AT&T) was spotty at best, to completely unavailable many times, which adds to the sense of isolation. The cabin is about 30-35 minutes from the nearest town of any size (Ellsworth) depending on traffic, and about an hour from Bar Harbor. Something to be aware of: if you use a GPS to take you to points North (Lubec, for example) you may find yourself going left out of the driveway and over about 3 miles of dirt roads before hooking up with the paved George's Pond Road. Some sections of the dirt roads are more like Jeep roads, and might give some low clearance cars some trouble. To avoid this, make sure you turn on your Off Road avoidance feature on your GPS. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay here and would definitely return if we wanted the solitude again. Oh, and we stayed in Cabin 1, which sits a little farther back then Cabin 2. The driveway is shared so you actually drive through Cabin 2's front yard to get to Cabin 1, so I think Cabin 1 is a better choice of the two. If you need wifi, cell phone service (which is actually spotty through much of Maine anyway), or to be closer to the Down East attractions you may want to stay closer to Ellsworth. Otherwise, Cry of the Loon is about as peaceful as you can get. Thank you!"

  • Staying in a Barn- just added to the excitement of the trip!

"We just spent 5 nights in the restored antique Barn- owner did a nice job remodeling. PROS- easy access to Schoodic Point, Bike Riding the Loop, Seascape Bike/Kayak rentals, Ferry , IGA grocery store located in Winter Harbor, The Lob Store , Pickled Wickle restaurant, Corea Light House We found this side of Acadia much less crowded and very scenic. Bathroom and Kitchen- great - all items needed were available. Loft- very nice Sitting outside on the patio -very relaxing CONS- the barn has no air conditioner, but 2 large exhaust fans that keep it cool. The time we were there it was not an issue. Weather great! The twin bed on the ground floor needs to be replaced (mattress very old). TV- you get 2 local channels with the rabbit ears. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and look forward to coming back next year!"

  • Cottage retreat with beautiful sunsets!

"Rustic but well equipped cabin with the best lot on the lake. Expansive beach in a perfect cove that blocks the wind & provides gorgeous views! Perfect water for swimming. Lovely & very friendly neighbors. Cabin has everything you need, including games, pots & pans, dishes, linens, towels, kayaks for 3, paddleboards, a great firepit, and picnic table. Come prepared for no washer or dryer though. And possibly no internet or phone, depending on your service. An easy drive to Acadia & BarHarbor. Looking forward to coming again!"

  • The best Maine stay you'll get!

"My husband and I used to live in this area, so when we returned for a long weekend we wanted to make sure we felt right at home. The sunset cottage is PERFECT for that! Roomy and comfortable for us and 4 friends we brought along with us. In the summertime we'll be back and we'll bring even more friends since the gorgeous 3-season sleeping room will be perfect for that time of year! The owners are incredibly nice and sweet and completely made our weekend :) The lake has a GORGEOUS view and the cottage is the perfect distance from the city of Bangor. Not too close - so you really get the authentic Maine experience, but close enough to go enjoy dinner and drinks and not feel as though it's a chore to get out there. We will definitely be back! Thank you SO MUCH!!"
