  • Clean, comfy, quiet, and even a tomato slicer!

"We had a wonderful week in early July at Cindy's rental. The cottage is secluded, yet close to Acadia, Deer Isle, and other areas for exploring. Cindy was very helpful in orienting us to the cabin, and on the several cool nights, the extra blankets came in handy. We enjoyed dinners on the deck while watching the sunset, and the kitchen was very well supplied (Foley fork for mixing dough - yes! Special tomato slicer - yes!). The swimming was excellent - clean water and a nice dock with storage, and the lake had plenty to explore by kayak. We observed eagles, herons, turtles, loons (with a young one), and a huge porcupine sitting on a rock by the lake. We highly recommend the nearby "Breadbox" bakery, particularly the peach pie and breads. This is a lovely rental with an owner who really cares for it, and we hope to return again."

  • Awesome spot

"The house is nicer than in the pictures, for sure. It's very spacious and comfortable, and has most everything you need. We were a group of five adults, and never felt crowded. I agree with the other reviewer, it's a good balance of rustic character and modern conveniences. The screened in porch is an excellent place to read a book or do a jigsaw puzzle. The lake is beautiful and extremely quiet (it seemed like the other sections of the lake were more populated). We loved hanging out on the dock and swimming out to the swim float. There are a few things that would make it more perfect - a new set of knives and silverware, and a ladder at the end of the dock (there are a lot of rocks, so a bit tricky to get in the water). Yes, it's a bit of a drive down the road to the house, but it's not at all bumpy, so they have done a good job at grading it – no problem at all. It's quite convenient to Blue Hill and other locations - we zipped to the Blue Hill food coop a few times, had lobster rolls at Bagaduce Lunch, and went to the amazing pizza night at Tinder Hearth Bakery. We have rented many lake houses in the area, and this ranks among the best."

  • Peaceful and Perfect

"My husband and I wanted a quiet and private place to call home while we explore Acadia National Park. Maureen and Steve were prompt in responding to our initial requests and payment was simple. Driving up to the property is impressive. It's so tranquil and beautiful. The Garaj is detached from the main house, so you have as much privacy as you need. However, they are available for anything you need during your stay. We hiked hard every day and looked forward to calling the Garaj Mahal home to rest and recover each evening. They have kayaks and a canoe for use, and a wonderful launching point just steps from the Garaj. You could easily spend days on Salt Pond exploring the coastline, seals, and other wildlife. Maureen and Steve have provided everything in the sweet little apartment that you could possibly need. They couldn't be lovelier. We could have easily stayed for weeks on end, but sadly, our vacation came to an end! Thank you Maureen and Steve! We miss the place already!"

  • A wonderful getaway cottage

"This house is great if you want peace and quiet, but yet it is close to area attractions. We have stayed here several times due to proximity to Acadia National Park and easy access to the coast to the north and south. We love the setting, on the water, and the peace and quiet, being set back and shrouded by trees. The house is spacious, comfortable, and well supplied with amenities for daily living. The wifi and cable tv are nice additions. We enjoyed watching wild turkeys stroll through the yard and seeing loons and herons on the water. With an outstanding view and comfortable beds, this place is hard to beat. Very comfortable."
