  • Can't wait to go back!

"Our family of four (our two daughters ages 11 and 13, my husband and me) spent a week here in June 2016 - the Knollette and Mount Desert Island are HEAVEN! This cottage was perfect for us. Wonderful space for our breakfasts and dinners, complete with charcoal grill and firepit in the backyard. Very private but with easy access to everything. We loved morning walks to the causeway down the street, went in to some part of Acadia Park every day, and the cottage is a pretty short walk to downtown Southwest Harbor and about a 20-minute drive to Bar Harbor. The Knollette has everything we needed for our week - washer/dryer, card-playing space, big windows of the yard and surrounding woods to see the deer, coffeemaker and great beds. In Acadia we recommend hiking Gorham and Champlain Mountains, spending plenty of time atop Cadillac, Jordan Pond Trail and biking the carriage roads. Eat lots of ice cream at the Quietside Cafe and MDI Ice Cream. The Knollette made our trip a total hit because of it's amenities, peace and location. The owner is very responsive and was VERY accommodating; we even got to meet him during our stay. We will be back! Hoping for TWO weeks next time!"

"Unbelievable! Superlative; a perfect solution to our dream vacation in Maine. Located in an area surrounded by secluded harbor towns with NO traffic lights! One hour by car to travel to Bar Harbor and Acadia. The view from the house of the cove at sunrise, the ocean at dusk...and stars in the sky at night are breathtaking. The house is off the road and surrounded by mature trees at the edge of the typical rocky coast. The interior decorations, layout are as described and you feel you are "down East". The housekeeping is immaculate, clean and fresh . The decor is detailed with appointments, are picture perfect and yet homey...yet like visiting family. The welcome with wine and the friendship bread was a pleasant surprise. Hanging out, relaxing in the Adirondack chairs, sipping wine...and having time to converse or just read a book...lounge in the hammock and nap...all with a breeze and scent of salty air! Thankful to be away from it all. The desktop photo on my computer now is the photo of the ocean and rocky shore from the house! Views for everywhere are keepers. And what is a vacation without special food adventures? At the house, the kitchen featured CuisinArt, cast iron and a gigantic lobster pot and is well stocked, great for steamed lobster dinners in; or for that occasional special romantic evening dining in. We found lobster available fresh off the boats in the harbor at reduced prices only found in Maine. We had our Boxer/Lab dog along and enjoyed local restaurants for breakfast on occasion, lunches on the wharf, and dinners on the friendly as well. The location provides opportunities to play tourist at Acadia and Bar Harbor, or just enjoy watching the activity of the lobster boats in the harbors, a visit to U.S. Bell...for a dinner bell or quilt? How about lunch on the wharf at Corea Harbor? The locals are friendly and very helpful. Sally is a superb hostess; we travel often and she is outstanding in her professional yet personal manner in providing responsive, timely support and recommendations. We plan to return...the greatest complement we can offer. Thank you for the perfect, memorable vacation location."

  • Peaceful cozy cabin on a beautiful pond (lake).

"Exactly what we were expecting. Comfortable, charming. Carol and Horace are wonderful hosts. Would stay here again. Loved renting kayaks from The Activity Center out of Blue Hill. Just call them up and they will deliver and pick up the kayaks at a very reasonable price. Loved the chatty loons at dusk and into the evening."

  • Perfect base camp in Bass Harbor

"Our second stay at the Ebb Tide with our pooch was as perfect as the first. Such a perfect location on the water in Bass Harbor. The house is wonderful with awesome views of the sunset from the house, patio with a fire ring, or chairs down at the water. It was so nice to have a quiet place to come back too and unwind after a day of exploring the wonderful hiking trails that Acadia National Park offers. Shelly maintains beautiful gardens around the house and has several bird feeders that attract lots of birds. The house is equipped with everything you need to make your stay enjoyable and if you do need something Shelly and Larry are eager to assist. We used the gas grill for half our meals, and enjoyed several local establishments in Southwest Harbor the other nights. Highly recommend "Eat a Pita" and the attached "Island Bar" for an awesome meal. Thurston's Lobster Pound is a 10 minute drive or use the canoe that comes with the house and paddle across the harbor and tie up at their dock to earn those steamers and beer! Many evenings we took a drive along the Seawall with walks at Wonderland Trail, Ship Harbor Nature Trail, and the Bass Harbor Lighthouse. We saw lots of deer each night we did this. The shower includes a floor to ceiling window that looks out onto the harbor - how many times do you get to enjoy a wonderful sunset while showering! There is a sun room off the master bedroom with a day bed that our pooch enjoyed - he could watch all the critters and keep us safe :) The house is very bright with lots of windows, but also in a very private setting. The hiking on Acadia is very similar to the terrain in the White Mountains of NH, just shorter peaks but with views of the ocean. Even though there were 2 or 3 cruise ships in Bar Harbor most days, we met very few people on the trails and had many summits to ourselves. Very enjoyable hiking! For dog lovers - dogs are welcome on most trails, but there is also an off leash dog park over by Seal Harbor where dogs and horses are welcome, but no bikes. It has a 5 mile loop along with other trails and a pond for the pooches to go swimming. Very worth checking it out. We highly recommend a stay at Ebb Tide - already planning a return trip next year."
