  • True Taste of Country

"This was our first visit to this part of Maine, and we fell in love with the whole Mount Desert Island area but especially with Acadia. We enjoyed the view from Cadillac Mountain, but especially loved getting up close and personal with the ocean, at Thunder Hole and at the tide pools at Wonderland. We went on an awesome whale-watching tour out of Bar Harbor and enjoyed walking around, soaking up the touristy atmosphere of the town. We also made a trip to Fort Knox and the Penobscot Observatory, both of which were impressive. Since we were only in the area for 3 days, we spent most of our time out and about, but what time we did have at the house was great - it had everything we needed except drinking water, which was easily remedied. The property is beautiful and there isn't a neighbor in sight, which was nice. Unfortunately we didn't get to see any wildlife around the house, just a woodpecker and other birds. There's an extensive collection of books of all sorts in the front hall for your reading pleasure, along with games and a few toys. The house was a comfortable temperature for the most part; the fans came in handy for making the bedrooms comfortable for sleeping. The new refrigerator is freaking awesome, and it was so handy to have a washer and dryer on site. We also really appreciated having a cooler and some already frozen "blue ice" we could borrow. On the downside, the downstairs shower didn't have much water pressure (I didn't try the upstairs one), and the water tends to smell a bit . . . cottage-y . . . but no big deal. It was a bit inconvenient not to have cell phone service, but the homeowners have made sure there is a landline available. Wi-fi wassn't working great for us - sometimes fast, sometimes slow, and sometimes not at all. Same with Netflix. Nothing that was a deal breaker, and we'd come back in a heartbeat to enjoy this taste of Maine country living and to be so conveniently located by Bar Harbor and Acadia."

  • EVERYMOON COTTAGE ON LOON HOLLOW IS A JEWEL AT THE POND

"We stayed 4 days in May and it truly is a charming little oasis from another era. Not another era entirely, it does have wifi...Right on the lake (or pond it's called up there) where the water goes from glassy in the morning to white caps with some weather. A morning cup of coffee can't get any better than this. It is filled with personal and homey touches that we loved. Fully stocked with everything you need to get started for a vacation. Drawbacks are one bedroom has no electricity (I believe it is a work in progress). There was a lantern so not total darkness. The stairs going down to the 3rd bedroom and the game room are treacherous for old folks like us but we managed and there's a gate to protect from young ones falling down or hurting themselves. I would go again but without the 5th person we had this time to avoid the stairs. Lots of toys so I can't say it isn't good for children. Josh is patient and wonderful."
