  • All the comforts of home: simple, charming and welcoming.

"My wife and I spent a wonderful week at Acadia Meadow for our honeymoon. Neither of us had visited Acadia prior but had high hopes of both the region and our homebase. Our expectations were exceeded in both accounts! My biggest priority for our trip was that we stay someplace that wasn't the usual tourist rattrap, someplace that felt like a home - if not our home then at least like the borrowed home of a relative or close friend. Someplace comfortable, furnished with personal touches, with a well-equipped kitchen and a few extras that said you were in the hands of someone who wanted you to feel at home and wished for you to enjoy the area as they did themselves. For us, Todd and Suze were those people and Acadia Meadow was that home. The house is clean and open. Most of it is the open kitchen, dining area and living room. There are picture windows that look out to a meadow beyond the lawn with trees beyond that. There's no other building to be seen. It's a wonderful view to cook by or take in from the attached private deck with coffee or cocktail in hand. It is an attached wing of the hosts' house but with its own entrance and driveway It always felt to be a private residence with a plus ... Todd and Suze themselves. Our hosts were wonderfully available when we needed them and left us completely to ourselves when we didn't have questions about farmer's markets, or swimming holes or the best carriage roads to ride on and the best trails to hike. We had the very good fortune of staying the last week of August when Todd's vegetable garden was bursting. We were offered our full of fresh herbs, carrots, cucumbers, beets and tomatoes and took full advantage. Even if you aren't lucky enough to stay when the garden is producing, the kitchen is very nicely equipped to cook to your heart's desire. Very nice quality pots and pans, good sharp knives, cutting boards in excess and storage containers to pack away leftovers for the next day. Whether I was searching an appliance or kitchen tool or picnic cooler or binoculars to check out the wildlife (and guidebooks to identify them) I was regularly surprised at how thoughtfully equipped this place is. The only qualification I'll add is that the house is on Route 3 set back about 50'. We knew it before we stayed. Yes, you can hear the cars but every place on the island has its reminders that the days of rustication are past. We chose to ignore the occasional muffled sounds and enjoy the simple pleasures here"

  • Heaven on earth!

"Words can't express the beauty waiting for you in Maine! Pictures can't do justice to the breathtaking property and words can't relate what considerate hosts Chelcey and her husband were during our stay at the Rugosa. My family and I loved the convenient location near Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park, and the complete privacy of the cottage. We were able to spot porpoises, harbor seals, sea otters, loons, and whitetail deer without even leaving our deck! Our daughters loved exploring the private beach at both low and high tides, and the fire pit was a beautiful location for watching the sun set in the evening. For the kids, the beautiful pool are was a great treat-- even our 5 year old dove off the diving rock into the deep end! What a confidence builder! If you are looking to unplug and relax, and just renew your spirit, this is the property for you!! We are eagerly looking forward to staying here again-- the sooner the better!"

  • Vacation Paradise

"This house was perfect for our family vacation! The setting was beautiful, peacefully quiet on the water, but within minutes from Acadia National Park and the center of town (Bar Harbor). A first floor bedroom and bath were great for Grandma, and the kitchen was suplied with all the utensils of home. The picture window in the front gave us a view of the sunrise and sunset, the tidal waters of Frenchman's Bay and the deer and birds that frequented the front path to the beach. We routinely took a dip in the pool every afternoon and dined on the spacious deck. The master suite was huge and inviting. We plan on returning for another glorious week the next time we are in this area and this house is the place to stay."

  • Mt. Desert Island/Acadia vacation

"This house was perfect for our long awaited visit to Acadia NP and Mt. Desert Island. You can get anywhere on the island or mainland easily. If you don't want to leave the house there is plenty to do; play pool, bocce ball, walk the garden and grounds, listen to the birds, look for wildlife, watch beautiful sunsets over the water and behind Blue Hill. Judy and Ralph were the perfect hosts. They answered our many questions whether it was about directions, history or meals. They are there if you need them or nonintrusive. We did not want to leave and will go back if we have the opportunity!"
