  • Fabulous House!

"We loved this house, and would recommend it for so many reasons. My favorite spot was the deck off the kitchen. Wine in hand, we snacked and chatted there every night, watching the sun go down. It's the epitome of relaxation. We cooked for ourselves most nights, as our days were so full of hiking and sightseeing. The kitchen has everything you'd want. Five of us shared the house, but it's huge and never felt crowded. Lots of space downstairs for everyone to watch the game or whatever is on TV. We stayed for five nights - which was perfect. There are many things to do and see. The island is small, so it's a short drive to get anywhere, but we loved that the house felt remote. It's on the "quiet side" of the island. From the house, you can walk down to a little path that's part of the nature preserve, reaching the shore within 30 minutes at most. The shady trails looked like fairies could pop out at any moment. There are many other trails close by, and the beautiful Echo Lake is just minutes away. We enjoyed a lobster dinner at Beal's Lobster Pier in Southwest Harbor, but my favorite meal was lobster rolls at Thurston's Lobster Pound down in Bernard at the tip of the western part of the island. Don't hesitate. This is a terrific place to stay."

  • Heaven on earth!

"Words can't express the beauty waiting for you in Maine! Pictures can't do justice to the breathtaking property and words can't relate what considerate hosts Chelcey and her husband were during our stay at the Rugosa. My family and I loved the convenient location near Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park, and the complete privacy of the cottage. We were able to spot porpoises, harbor seals, sea otters, loons, and whitetail deer without even leaving our deck! Our daughters loved exploring the private beach at both low and high tides, and the fire pit was a beautiful location for watching the sun set in the evening. For the kids, the beautiful pool are was a great treat-- even our 5 year old dove off the diving rock into the deep end! What a confidence builder! If you are looking to unplug and relax, and just renew your spirit, this is the property for you!! We are eagerly looking forward to staying here again-- the sooner the better!"

  • Summer vacation

"This home was everything advertised. It was very clean and the location was perfect. Six adults and 4 children had plenty of space, enjoyed the pool table and fooze ball, played several of the games and just had fun. The owner was very helpful and easy to work with. I would definitely stay here again."

  • All the comforts of home: simple, charming and welcoming.

"My wife and I spent a wonderful week at Acadia Meadow for our honeymoon. Neither of us had visited Acadia prior but had high hopes of both the region and our homebase. Our expectations were exceeded in both accounts! My biggest priority for our trip was that we stay someplace that wasn't the usual tourist rattrap, someplace that felt like a home - if not our home then at least like the borrowed home of a relative or close friend. Someplace comfortable, furnished with personal touches, with a well-equipped kitchen and a few extras that said you were in the hands of someone who wanted you to feel at home and wished for you to enjoy the area as they did themselves. For us, Todd and Suze were those people and Acadia Meadow was that home. The house is clean and open. Most of it is the open kitchen, dining area and living room. There are picture windows that look out to a meadow beyond the lawn with trees beyond that. There's no other building to be seen. It's a wonderful view to cook by or take in from the attached private deck with coffee or cocktail in hand. It is an attached wing of the hosts' house but with its own entrance and driveway It always felt to be a private residence with a plus ... Todd and Suze themselves. Our hosts were wonderfully available when we needed them and left us completely to ourselves when we didn't have questions about farmer's markets, or swimming holes or the best carriage roads to ride on and the best trails to hike. We had the very good fortune of staying the last week of August when Todd's vegetable garden was bursting. We were offered our full of fresh herbs, carrots, cucumbers, beets and tomatoes and took full advantage. Even if you aren't lucky enough to stay when the garden is producing, the kitchen is very nicely equipped to cook to your heart's desire. Very nice quality pots and pans, good sharp knives, cutting boards in excess and storage containers to pack away leftovers for the next day. Whether I was searching an appliance or kitchen tool or picnic cooler or binoculars to check out the wildlife (and guidebooks to identify them) I was regularly surprised at how thoughtfully equipped this place is. The only qualification I'll add is that the house is on Route 3 set back about 50'. We knew it before we stayed. Yes, you can hear the cars but every place on the island has its reminders that the days of rustication are past. We chose to ignore the occasional muffled sounds and enjoy the simple pleasures here"
