  • Perfect location

"We were 2 60-somethings and 3 young adults. We knew Mount Desert Island from previous weekend trips to Maine, but we'd always stayed in a hotel in Bar Harbor. This was a much better plan. The house was perfect for us. We spent our trip hiking in Acadia. So happy to be away from the tourist crush in Bar Harbor, yet within an easy drive of the park and all of Mount Desert's restaurants. The layout of good kitchen plus dining and living areas meant we had plenty of space to hang out together."

  • Beautiful and comfortable home

"I would recommend this house. We had a great stay. The house is very clean and the area is very quiet which was very nice for 4 busy professionals. Every bedroom has its bathroom. The view is beautiful and the location is perfect to visit Mount Desert Island and Acadia National Park. One surprise at the end: cleaning fees are deducted from the security deposit which we have never seen before ( the house was left impeccable). In spite of this, I would highly recommend renting this house as it has everything needed for a relaxing and easy vacation."

  • perfect for our needs!

"We had a fabulous five days in the farmhouse cottage. It is a small place, but perfectly comfortable for my husband and I, plus our toddler son (we brought a pack-n-play for him to sleep in). There is no A/C in the cottage but it stayed cool via the open windows for night breezes and ceiling fans. The washer/dryer was especially useful as was the provided detergent. There are enough dishes, pots & pans, etc. for us to prepare simple meals for breakfast and the odd evening that we wanted to stay in. The water pressure was fantastic, which was especially appreciated after long days hiking through Acadia! The only improvement that could be made for comfort would be the squeaky and hard mattress. We loved the cottage's location. It is set back from the busy road far enough that the we couldn't hear the trucks passing. Every day or night, we took a stroll into the heart of Southwest Harbor for breakfast at the Common Good, or dinner at the Quietside Cafe or other spots, or to buy a blueberry pie at the little bakery we passed! The farmhouse cottage was a great decision towards the success of our island vacation!"

  • Captain's Quarters

"This is a clean and lovely cottage with windows that take advantage of the lovely water view. The living space is large and extends out to a good size deck complete with rockers and a picnic table. Oversized windows in the living room and master bedroom, along with three skylights and a windowed cupola, keep the entire space bright and fresh. The kitchen is small but functional and well equipped. Though we did no grilling, charcoal was stocked for our use. We appreciated the convenience of a dishwasher, washer and dryer. We were charmed to be greeted with a loaf of locally baked bread and jar of amazing blueberry preserves. After a quick phone call for an address we (and our guests) went to the nearby stand and bought out the preserves. Oh yeah, we treated ourselves to the stand's fresh baked cookies too! We chose Bass Harbor in order to stay away from the hustle, bustle and traffic of the Bar Harbor side of the island and it worked out perfectly. We easily accessed a lot of hiking trails and entered the carriage trails (to bike) from western parking lots. The ferry to Swan's Island is a short bike ride away and we spent an enjoyable day there. Nearby restaurants and those in Southwest Harbor were quite good. If this sounds like a vacation you'd enjoy, by all means consider Captain's Quarters as your home away from home."
