  • Four Winds

"The cottage, Four Winds, is on the point of a peninsula just north of Southwest Harbor. It is a beautiful spot with its own beach and private dock. The house is roomy, clean, well stocked and very comfortable. The three front upstairs bedrooms open out to a large deck with lounge chairs and a hammock. Our family has enjoyed a vacation here for the last two years. We just loved taking the youngest kids on sea glass hunts on the rocky beach and watching the older kids of all ages swimming and fishing for crabs off the dock. We all enjoyed our meals on the patio while drinking in the peaceful views of the ocean with boats sailing by. Four Winds is a little piece of heaven tucked away on Mt. Dessert Island!"

  • Perfect base camp in Bass Harbor

"Our second stay at the Ebb Tide with our pooch was as perfect as the first. Such a perfect location on the water in Bass Harbor. The house is wonderful with awesome views of the sunset from the house, patio with a fire ring, or chairs down at the water. It was so nice to have a quiet place to come back too and unwind after a day of exploring the wonderful hiking trails that Acadia National Park offers. Shelly maintains beautiful gardens around the house and has several bird feeders that attract lots of birds. The house is equipped with everything you need to make your stay enjoyable and if you do need something Shelly and Larry are eager to assist. We used the gas grill for half our meals, and enjoyed several local establishments in Southwest Harbor the other nights. Highly recommend "Eat a Pita" and the attached "Island Bar" for an awesome meal. Thurston's Lobster Pound is a 10 minute drive or use the canoe that comes with the house and paddle across the harbor and tie up at their dock to earn those steamers and beer! Many evenings we took a drive along the Seawall with walks at Wonderland Trail, Ship Harbor Nature Trail, and the Bass Harbor Lighthouse. We saw lots of deer each night we did this. The shower includes a floor to ceiling window that looks out onto the harbor - how many times do you get to enjoy a wonderful sunset while showering! There is a sun room off the master bedroom with a day bed that our pooch enjoyed - he could watch all the critters and keep us safe :) The house is very bright with lots of windows, but also in a very private setting. The hiking on Acadia is very similar to the terrain in the White Mountains of NH, just shorter peaks but with views of the ocean. Even though there were 2 or 3 cruise ships in Bar Harbor most days, we met very few people on the trails and had many summits to ourselves. Very enjoyable hiking! For dog lovers - dogs are welcome on most trails, but there is also an off leash dog park over by Seal Harbor where dogs and horses are welcome, but no bikes. It has a 5 mile loop along with other trails and a pond for the pooches to go swimming. Very worth checking it out. We highly recommend a stay at Ebb Tide - already planning a return trip next year."

  • Perfect getaway!

"We loved our stay at head of the harbor. It was the perfect spot to get away. We loved being able to walk to town and the view of the harbor was perfect. We went to Acadia and Bar Harbor several times...less than 30 minutes and the drive is beautiful! Would highly recommend it to anyone, house is comfortable with tons of amenities and thoughtful touches, especially for families!"

  • Great stay on MDI

"We recently stayed at this wonderful home. The previous reviews did a nice job of capturing the benefits/features of this home so I will hit just a few highlights. Found Southwest Harbor to be very quaint and nice break from Bar Harbor. Good jumping off point to all points on the island. There are a handful of restaurants in town (we enjoyed Eat-a-Pita ... it is much more than pitas). There is a nice wine shop with a wide selection of wine and cheeses. Fire pit in back. Nice way to relax after a full day ... plenty of firewood on hand. Family room very comfy with leather couch and chairs, fireplace, large TV. There is a grocery store in town but if you plan on doing a lot of cooking we recommend that you try Hannaford's in Bar Harbor. Suzanne was great. Easily accessible by phone or email. We would definitely stay here again should we return to the area."
