  • Wonderful Family Vacation in Acadia

"We had a wonderful week at BassTerre. We knew that Acadia would be spectacular, but was so thrilled to see that BassTerre was equally terrific. The property is just as described, but the view and private setting is even more impressive than shown. We really appreciated the owners many recommendations, and the cottage had absolutely everything we needed to make us feel at home. Our kids explored the shoreline each day, going on countless “buoy hunts” and we loved the huge front lawn for family games of badminton and soccer.(as well as building evening campfires on the beach!) Great location to get to the park and most of our days were spent hiking and exploring Acadia. If you are trying to avoid the bustle of Bar Harbor but want to be close enough to get there for dinner or day trips (about 30 minutes), you can't do better. Southwest Harbor is less than 10 minutes away with many lovely shops and restaurants and Bass Harbor is only 5 minutes away (Island Cruises, out of Bass Harbor, is a must!) The views from the cottage and deck were absolutely breathtaking, lobster boats were fun to watch and hear, an eagle flying overhead, deer in the early morning, and being able to step out to our private beach was priceless. Lobster was available just about everywhere, but we really enjoyed ordering it fresh from the Goose Cove lobstermen and enjoying it on our deck while watching the sunset. So beautiful, so Maine, so thankful for it all. Will definitely return to BassTerre for more family memories!"

  • Post Holiday Adventure on a Sleepy MDI

"What a find! This home is spacious, well appointed, with a feeling of charm and warmth. The kitchen has anything and everything you would ever need. The bedrooms are roomy and the beds comfortable. The view of the Sound from all front facing windows is mesmerizing. And a huge deck runs across the entire front of the home. There are great trails near by for hiking, It's a short drive to Southwest Harbor. And a great place for home baked breads, pizza, subs and pastries is Saltmeadow Farm on the Tremont Road, Bass Harbor. Yumm. I would definitely return and I wouldn't hesitate recommending this home to a friend."

  • Perfect Cottage on "Quietside" of MDI

"My husband and I stayed at this cottage for a long weekend stay on Mt. Desert Island. It is lovely and quiet - everything you might need for a week at Acadia. The cottage is simple but well outfitted and the owners are friendly and available with help and advice on the island. And the views are spectacular. This would be the perfect place to stay during this summer's Centenary of the park - this side of the island is always peaceful but only a short drive from the main parts of the park. We did some hiking and the carriage roads are perfect for biking. Away from the tourist spots of Bar Harbor (but close enough to go in for dinner or even an ice cream cone!), it is Maine at it's most authentic. Thanks Weslea and Curtis for a wonderful weekend!"
