  • Felt like a local for a week-- not like a tourist at Acadia!

"I wanted to enjoy the spectacular views of Acadia while avoiding the crowds. My desire was to experience the area as a local. It fit the bill beautifully. The grounds of the property are beautiful and the house is uniquely lovely. From a commercial kitchen fit for a serious cook to a very comfortable bed, I felt like I was at home. Cherie was a wonderful host offering suggestions when asked but respecting her guests privacy. Her personal artistic touches were evident both in the house and on the property. The home is located on the quiet side of the island but has a lot to offer. I enjoyed meeting locals walking their dogs to other visitors like myself. It is a wonderful place to get away from it all and enjoy the beauty all around us. Despite being on the quiet side of the island there are great restaurants and a small but very gourmet grocery store in Southwest Harbor, a small neighboring community. I couldn't have asked for more!"

  • Quiet, beautiful waterside compound

"We just got back from a wonderful week in Mt Desert! We had 14 in our family from ages 3-78. The good: *The view! Spectacular during high tide! Definitely recommend kayaking in Squid Cove out to Squid Island) We saw 2 seals:) Water is so calm. We were so amazed how much the water came in and out (and how quickly!) between high/low tide. *The location - quiet area of the island and close to Southwest Harbor, Bar Harbor. Bar Harbor is a zoo! *Crabs, hermit crabs, little crayfish near the shore:) Hoping to see more sea creatures. Saw one starfish! *Kitchen was well stocked (appreciated some spices in the pantry - we left a few ourselves) *Beds were comfortable *Comfortable living area in new house *Board games and lawn games (croquet & bocci - the kids had a blast playing both on the lawn area next to the new house) Not so good: * In the old cottage, had issues with opening/closing the door in the kitchen *Locking doors was a bit confusing - we didn't end up locking up any of the doors - I know some of my family was not comfortable with that. *There should be some directions on using the fireplaces in the old cottage. We had smoke coming in the cabin because we didn't realize to tie up the chain for the flue. Even when we tied the chain up, we still had some smoke coming in the rooms (there's a fireplace in the master bedroom, family room and the bedroom with the queen + 2 bunk beds). Bummer! The bedrooms smelled smokey for several days:( *Mosquitos!!! Bring your mosquito spray + anti-itch medicine! We probably each got at least 15 bites! More noticeable during low tide. *Furniture for new house was not put outside but was quickly fixed with a phone call. I think we were the first ones using the houses for the season so things were not quite prepared. *Bathrooms/bedrooms in the old cottage were not as tidy as the new house. Cobwebs, bugs in shower, dust in the master bedroom. I realize we are in the wilderness here but we expect it to be super clean. I'm guessing the houses were not cleaned just before we got there. *Had some issues with animal noises in the middle of the night. Raccoons under the baseboards in the master bedroom - terrible sound! Google it! In the master bedroom in the new house, we had mice making scratching sounds but luckily it only lasted 2 nights but still! We even had a sound machine and we woke up to the scratching sounds:( Overall, we had a memorable vacation!!"

  • Lovely, comfortable stay in an ideal location!

"We had a terrific stay at Birdsong! The cabin is beautiful, comfortable and clean, and it was perfect for our family - 2 adults, 2 kids (11 & 8) and a large dog. We visit MDI every summer and enjoy relaxing on the quiet side, but also spend a lot of time inside the park. We were looking for a more central location to minimize driving time and couldn't have imagined a more ideal spot! Very close to Long Pond and Somes Pond for kayaking and swimming. Another nearby bonus is Beech Hill Farm, where you can get fresh and delicious food to enjoy while winding down at the cabin. Lisa is friendly and responsive and has provided lots of useful information at the cabin. We highly recommend Birdsong and hope to be back!"

  • Perfect!!!

"We stayed at the bungalow with our dog, and we were greeted with a nice basket full of goodies (including a treat for the dog) and a bottle of wine. It was the perfect location for us, nice to be able to walk out of the bungalow and have everything in walking distance: great restaurants, shops and the harbor. Enjoyed early morning walks to the water, a full day of hiking and it was great to come back to the bungalow to relax. We were surprised how quiet once inside the apartment being so close to town and traffic. We have vacationed on the island for over 15 years trying different rentals and locations, we have finally found the perfect location for us; definitely renting again in 2017. Ann was so accommodating, we had a full size truck and she allowed us to use her own parking space, she also gave us our privacy, we only ran into her a couple of times in our early morning outings."
