  • LOVE THIS PLACE

"This house is absolutely beautiful the pictures are spot-on it's very very clean I thought they just bought this a couple years ago because it was so clean and everything looked really good but when I found out they bought it in 2007 I'm like wow this is really nice the Quarry is beautiful swimmable they keep it very clean it is so quiet here you could hear a pin drop you can see all the stars in the sky at night I would totally recommend this house when I first found this house I found no reviews but when we arrived I found a guest book dating back when they first started renting this property in 2007 they are reviews about the house the location restaurant hiking trails memories that the family had made while they were here I often wondered why there weren't any reviews online and then found the book so they're all good the owners are great anything you need any questions they live right here on the property while not in the same house but down below on the property they have everything that you need while you're here a gas grill condiments Wi-Fi Games movies cards books everything I would 100% recommend this house and in fact you might even come back here next year!!!!!!!!"

  • Could not have been better!

"This home away from home had everything we needed and more! The cottage is decorated beautifully, clean as can be and we look forward to staying there again. The seclusion and the short distance from the park and Bar Harbor is about as perfect as can be for a vacation that gives you space and peace while being close to the "action". We were provided some great travel tips from our owner and the previous guests in the comments written in the guest book which was much appreciated since this was our first trip to Maine. You cannot go wrong with this property!"

  • Quiet, beautiful waterside compound

"We just got back from a wonderful week in Mt Desert! We had 14 in our family from ages 3-78. The good: *The view! Spectacular during high tide! Definitely recommend kayaking in Squid Cove out to Squid Island) We saw 2 seals:) Water is so calm. We were so amazed how much the water came in and out (and how quickly!) between high/low tide. *The location - quiet area of the island and close to Southwest Harbor, Bar Harbor. Bar Harbor is a zoo! *Crabs, hermit crabs, little crayfish near the shore:) Hoping to see more sea creatures. Saw one starfish! *Kitchen was well stocked (appreciated some spices in the pantry - we left a few ourselves) *Beds were comfortable *Comfortable living area in new house *Board games and lawn games (croquet & bocci - the kids had a blast playing both on the lawn area next to the new house) Not so good: * In the old cottage, had issues with opening/closing the door in the kitchen *Locking doors was a bit confusing - we didn't end up locking up any of the doors - I know some of my family was not comfortable with that. *There should be some directions on using the fireplaces in the old cottage. We had smoke coming in the cabin because we didn't realize to tie up the chain for the flue. Even when we tied the chain up, we still had some smoke coming in the rooms (there's a fireplace in the master bedroom, family room and the bedroom with the queen + 2 bunk beds). Bummer! The bedrooms smelled smokey for several days:( *Mosquitos!!! Bring your mosquito spray + anti-itch medicine! We probably each got at least 15 bites! More noticeable during low tide. *Furniture for new house was not put outside but was quickly fixed with a phone call. I think we were the first ones using the houses for the season so things were not quite prepared. *Bathrooms/bedrooms in the old cottage were not as tidy as the new house. Cobwebs, bugs in shower, dust in the master bedroom. I realize we are in the wilderness here but we expect it to be super clean. I'm guessing the houses were not cleaned just before we got there. *Had some issues with animal noises in the middle of the night. Raccoons under the baseboards in the master bedroom - terrible sound! Google it! In the master bedroom in the new house, we had mice making scratching sounds but luckily it only lasted 2 nights but still! We even had a sound machine and we woke up to the scratching sounds:( Overall, we had a memorable vacation!!"

  • Pleasant place to stay

"The cottage exceeded our expectations. It was comfortable, clean and with all amenities for a very pleasant stay. The practical lay-out and the tasteful decoration made us feel at home right-away. The owner and care-taker were very attentive with information and quick with answers to our questions. Mount Desert Island of course offers a lot for nature lovers and one morning we had a deer visiting in the garden. There are a lot of possibilities for activities nearby with trails for hiking and a lake for canoeing only minutes away. Bar Harbor is only a leisurely 25 minute drive and a brewery, winery and beautiful gardens are closer by. During the summer this is a great place to stay. When it gets colder, I am not sure if the living area can be heated adequately. It was not so easy to find in the dark on the night of our arrival but that applies to many properties on a first visit in an unknown area. I highly recommend this property to anyone who want to explore Mount Desert Island during the warmer months of the year. Matthe and family"
