  • True Taste of Country

"This was our first visit to this part of Maine, and we fell in love with the whole Mount Desert Island area but especially with Acadia. We enjoyed the view from Cadillac Mountain, but especially loved getting up close and personal with the ocean, at Thunder Hole and at the tide pools at Wonderland. We went on an awesome whale-watching tour out of Bar Harbor and enjoyed walking around, soaking up the touristy atmosphere of the town. We also made a trip to Fort Knox and the Penobscot Observatory, both of which were impressive. Since we were only in the area for 3 days, we spent most of our time out and about, but what time we did have at the house was great - it had everything we needed except drinking water, which was easily remedied. The property is beautiful and there isn't a neighbor in sight, which was nice. Unfortunately we didn't get to see any wildlife around the house, just a woodpecker and other birds. There's an extensive collection of books of all sorts in the front hall for your reading pleasure, along with games and a few toys. The house was a comfortable temperature for the most part; the fans came in handy for making the bedrooms comfortable for sleeping. The new refrigerator is freaking awesome, and it was so handy to have a washer and dryer on site. We also really appreciated having a cooler and some already frozen "blue ice" we could borrow. On the downside, the downstairs shower didn't have much water pressure (I didn't try the upstairs one), and the water tends to smell a bit . . . cottage-y . . . but no big deal. It was a bit inconvenient not to have cell phone service, but the homeowners have made sure there is a landline available. Wi-fi wassn't working great for us - sometimes fast, sometimes slow, and sometimes not at all. Same with Netflix. Nothing that was a deal breaker, and we'd come back in a heartbeat to enjoy this taste of Maine country living and to be so conveniently located by Bar Harbor and Acadia."

  • Lovely cottage in great location

"We were quite pleased with the location and cleanliness of the "Rugosa" cottage. It is minutes away from the Hull Cove visitor center of Acadia National Park and the village of Bar Harbor. The cottage was clean and well maintained. The loft proved excellent for reading and napping after a day of hiking. The two pools were also great for a late day swim especially since we had a couple of hot days."

  • Exactly What We Wanted- Cozy, Clean, Scenic, and Quiet

"I am several weeks late in posting a review. However, I feel compelled to post because the reviews here helped us make a very good selection. Also, I want to thank the owners of this very nice cottage and the caretaker who was so helpful for the perfect week we spent here. The house was exactly what one hopes for - very clean, cozy, comfortably appointed, nice and quiet. We truly relaxed here and recharged ourselves. Like others have mentioned in their reviews, the views looking out over the bay were big and beautiful, and the patio is very nice for spending a morning or afternoon. Being that it was a cool weather time of year, we enjoyed fires in the living room's open stove fireplace at night and making two big pots of hearty seafood stew with large quantities of fresh seafood we purchased in town. There's plenty to do in the area if you want to stay busy - Acadia, lighthouses, Schoodic, Bar Harbor and so on. We did visit Schoodic and Quoddy Head- both great. For us, however, the best parts were reading by the fire, enjoying the peaceful tranquility of the setting, watching the wildlife, and going for refreshing walks - all of which we did and thoroughly enjoyed. It was late in the season and we didn't bring our kayak because of weather concerns. However, we'll return, and definitely bring our kayak because the area is PERFECT for kayaking. This was our first time to Milbridge. It's a good little town with all the basics - grocery, bank, post office. The location of the cottage was 3 or so miles out from town on a peninsula with bays on either side. It is a convenient location to town yet far enough out to feel very private. I think some of the other nearby areas we considered- Corea, Steuben, Harrington- would have been a bit too far out since they have to go to Milbridge for groceries and such. That's why we were pleased with Milbridge for our choice. The cottage itself was cozy and comfortable. Cozy is the word that just keeps coming to mind whenever I think about our time there- relaxing on the couch late at night, fire going, wife's fuzzy slippers, soup on the stove, glass of wine in hand, good book or movie to look at. We also thought it was a good price for a nice place - especially after driving around and checking out a couple of others we had considered in our search. So, I'd say this is a good choice if you want a nice, comfortable place with all the basics covered because you can be active or just relax in great scenic surroundings."

  • Large, comfortable and beautiful - great location!

"The house was great for our two families. Large main room for games, eating and socializing. The bedrooms were lovely and comfortable. The location is private with expansive views of the harbor and surrounding territory. We spent a lot of time chilling on the deck and staring at the lobster boats. We will definitely return to this house - loved it!"
