  • Home sweet home

"My family and I stayed at this home for one week in mid may. We had everything that we needed and more for a comfortable and fun visit. The house was fully equipped for both indoor and outdoor activity and was set in a pretty quiet, and convenient location. Janice, our hostess was extremely helpful and friendly. We would rent this property again when visiting Bar Harbor."

  • Peaceful Getaway

"My family has stayed at this camp four times. It's tucked away off Route 182 in Downeast Maine. Listen to the loons as you take a quiet morning kayak paddle. Fish off the dock. Rent a motor boat and explore the lake. Sit by the campfire and tell stories. Paddle to 'jumping rock' and go for a swim. Collect wild blueberries along the shoreline. Drive to Milbridge and buy lobsters to cook at Inland Seafood. Hike nearby Tunk Mountain. Stay up late and look at the stars, planets and Milky Way. Truly relax at this small, remote camp that used to be an old Maine fishing camp. Things to bring to make your stay more enjoyable: kayaks, canoe, fishing gear, paddleboat, spices and recipes to cook, pillows, books, art materials, iPod, towels and friends. Rent a boat to explore the lake. You'll get a sense of how deep and clear the lake is that surrounded by protected forest. No jet skis allowed which keeps it so peaceful. Eat at Tracy's Lobster Shack in Sullivan or the Pizza 182 down the road. They have BYOB in outdoor dining area."

  • This is a beautiful home

"A picture is worth 1000 words..I think that's how the saying goes...but we were all very surprised with how beautiful this home is...really and truly a beautiful home. If you come in the fall, the drive here is breathtaking with the explosion of colors. Jo is very very easy to work with. Location, location, location....it's easy to find, and close to the park. The house is very, very clean as well. It is also quiet..a real private feeling."

  • Perfect Getaway

"We had a great week at Surchin's End. The cottage was all we had hoped for -- peaceful, spacious, comfortable, thoughtfully decorated and equipped, lovely. Just right for cooking, eating in, and planning our next adventure. A tranquil water and mountain view from the deck, Adirondack chairs near the water, interesting books and places to read and write, and wonderful artwork throughout made this a special place that felt like home. The location was quite convenient -- great for exploring all that the Schoodic area has to offer, but close enough to Bar Harbor and MDI for day trips and dinners. I especially recommend checking out the Frenchman's Bay Conservancy's map of short hikes and the Park Service's new bike/multi-use trails at Schoodic Woods. The Schoodic area is beautiful, quiet, and restorative. We hiked up Baker Hill, which has spectacular views of Frenchman's Bay, and saw only one other person. There were more things to see and do than we could cram into a week, and we hope to return."
