  • So welcoming in every way

"We spent a week at NortherNest; my husband, our portuguese water dog and our two beagles! I'm not sure who enjoyed the 'nest' more; my husband and I, or the dogs! The moment we entered the 'nest', there were welcoming touches everywhere; from the water bowl adorned with dog biscuits, to the crisply made beds with lovely linens and bedcovers, to the freshly cut and arranged garden flowers throughout the house. Our stay was relaxing and peaceful beyond words. As some have already said, the pictures just don't fully account for the beautiful setting, the amazing beach, enclosed deck with access to the pup area, and proximity to Mt Desert Island and Acadia Nat'l Park. We explored all of the island and the park everyday. What a pleasure to have our beagles off leash enjoying time on the deck with us! We will definitely return!"

  • Fabulous House!

"We loved this house, and would recommend it for so many reasons. My favorite spot was the deck off the kitchen. Wine in hand, we snacked and chatted there every night, watching the sun go down. It's the epitome of relaxation. We cooked for ourselves most nights, as our days were so full of hiking and sightseeing. The kitchen has everything you'd want. Five of us shared the house, but it's huge and never felt crowded. Lots of space downstairs for everyone to watch the game or whatever is on TV. We stayed for five nights - which was perfect. There are many things to do and see. The island is small, so it's a short drive to get anywhere, but we loved that the house felt remote. It's on the "quiet side" of the island. From the house, you can walk down to a little path that's part of the nature preserve, reaching the shore within 30 minutes at most. The shady trails looked like fairies could pop out at any moment. There are many other trails close by, and the beautiful Echo Lake is just minutes away. We enjoyed a lobster dinner at Beal's Lobster Pier in Southwest Harbor, but my favorite meal was lobster rolls at Thurston's Lobster Pound down in Bernard at the tip of the western part of the island. Don't hesitate. This is a terrific place to stay."

  • Acadia Cove Cabin is perfect!

"We spent a week in mid-June in Acadia Cove Cabin and had a wonderful time. The cabin feels very remote and private, yet Southwest Harbor with stores and restaurants is just a 7 minute drive, and pretty much everything else can be reached in 20 minutes: Bass Harbor Light, Bar Harbor, Park Loop Road, Jordan's Pond, Cadillac Mountain, etc. The view from the deck and living room over Somes Sound is absolutely amazing! At low tide there is a bit of shoreline to explore, and in the mornings you can see the lobster boats come and check their traps. The kitchen comes with all the tools and utensils you need, and there were some basic spices and oils, as well as dish washing liquid and dish and paper towels. The bathroom had lots of nice fluffy towels and plenty of bathroom tissue for the week. The internet went out a few times, but usually came right back on, and the signal was very strong. The owner responded quickly to questions and was very easy to deal with - no extra charges for cleaning, linens or the dog. We would definitely visit again!"

  • Perfect, cozy, relaxing spot

"My boyfriend and I stayed in this lovely cottage while exploring Acadia. It was perfect for the two of us! Much more spacious than the pictures show. The flowers were welcoming as was the sunny, open entryway/living room. We were half an hour from most of the hikes we wanted to do but very close to Southwest Harbor which was a classy and quaint town with just enough delicious restaurants and activity to keep us satisfied. We even got pizza one early evening and brought it back to the cottage and sat outside on the patio and ate pizza and drank beers. We had scrumptious seafood in town a few nights as well. It was peaceful and private and felt like we were in our own little world. There were a few hikes we also did close to the cottage and Bass Harbor lighthouse was just a few minutes down the road. We had wanted to extend our stay because we were enjoying our time so much but someone else was arriving. Leslie was great on the phone when we were first exploring options and we are so thankful we decided on this location once we became familiar with a few of the other towns we were checking out online. If you want a home away from home that is close enough to different activities and great food but far enough that you aren't right in the thick of tourist hell, this is definitely a perfect option."
