  • More than we expected...

"The Howard home was more than we expected for our family vacation. The house is fully stocked, sheets, towels, pillows, etc., even the kitchen has essentials and then some, I always bring tons of stuff from home, cheese grater, wine opener, etc., none of it was necessary, they think of everything! This is all on top of paddle boards, kayaks, canoes, pontoon boat (which was great to cruise around in and swim in the pond from), games, grounds, etc. The amount of space in the house was more than we needed, but it was nice to have space to spread out. There was something for everyone to do and the little town of Wayne does not disappoint either. Super cute general store and you MUST go to "Tubbie's" for ice cream, we admittedly went more than once. Mr. Howard was available on a moment's notice for questions and guidance while we were there. Terrific experience and super grateful that we had the time together as a family. Thank you from the Doug & Stacy Gooding & Family, Beverly, MA."

  • Great Property for the Family and Friends

"Nice cottage with all the amenities. This is our third time there and will be back in the future. Close to the coast but away from the tourist traps. great support from the care takers with quite a few things on the property to take advantage of for kids or adults. A nice big fire pit if you want to enjoy it in the evening."

  • Beautiful home in a fantastic location

"This house was the perfect size and layout for our large, multi-generational family. In total, we had 9 adults and 2 children ranging from ages 3 to 60. There was enough room in the home for everyone to spread out to have time alone, while the main floor was perfect when we all got together. The kitchen was fabulous for cooking family dinners and we made a lot of use of the expansive deck. All of the little extras provided, from the spice drawer to the game/puzzle collection, to the provided firewood and binoculars made it easy to feel at home from the minute we arrived. The location is very quiet and surrounded by woods with no road traffic, yet still only a few minutes out of town. The sunrise every morning over the river was absolutely beautiful and the campfire pit was perfect for the evenings. Communicating with Sandra was quick and easy and she provided us with some great recommendations of things to do and places to eat in the area which we took advantage of. There are only a couple things I would change about the home to make it even better: 1) The house only has 3 window A/C units. It was a bit tricky figuring out who in our group would be stuck in a bedroom without the A/C. It turned out just fine because we went in late August and the temperature cooled down a lot at night, so the provided box window fans kept the rooms plenty cool. However, if we had gone earlier in the summer without the cooler evenings, the older adults in our group would have had some problems sleeping in the heat. 2) It was a little tricky figuring out how to make use of the canoe since the shoreline is very rocky. On our last day we realized that high tide in the early afternoon was the perfect time to launch the boat. We noticed many other homes on the river had long docks that extend into the water, which would be beneficial for using the canoe even at lower tide. 3) The Queen bedroom on the main floor (the converted office) lacked a bit of privacy due to the glass pocket doors that were only covered with a sheer curtain. My sister-in-law ended up staying comfortably in this room, but an adult couple might want more privacy. Overall, I would highly recommend this home and location for visiting Maine. My family had an awesome time and if we ever come back to the area, this is where we would stay again without hesitation! Thank you Sandra for sharing your home with us!!!"

  • Fantastic Maine Vacation

"My family and I just got back from our second stay at the Loon's Nest. It was everything that we remembered from our first trip and more because this time, we were able to enjoy the lake and the boats in addition to being able to spend time visiting friends and family. This house is just perfect for our three generational getaways to Maine . My son-in-law is a chef and just loved the kitchen. The kids loved the lake and the kayaks and the paddle boat and row boat. My daughter and I love that we each have a bedroom that we love. Mine is the one with the wood panel which also happens to get the best cross ventilation breeze in the house. Hers is the one with the lake view and queen size bed! The teenagers love the loft and the upstairs bedroom too. We alternated between spending time at the lake and getting out to enjoy some of the other highlights of the area. We left hot and humid Northern Virginia for a glorious week in Maine with cooler temperatures and wonderful lake breezes. We have already started talking about our next visit. One week was not enough! We hope that next summer we can spend two weeks at the Loon's Nest with our whole family so that we can do everything that we loved this year plus some of the things that we didn't get to do this time. It is a pleasure to deal with the owner of this beautiful property. After two successful bookings, he feels like a friend. He is very responsive which I really appreciate and know isn't always the case from other rental experiences. Given that we are trying to schedule a third and maybe even a fourth visit, it goes without saying that we would recommend this property and this owner to anyone wanting to spend a week on a beautiful lake in Maine!"
