  • Most relaxing vacation!

"This place was incredible! The view has to be seen to be believed. Loved the smell of the ocean air, too. Plenty of room, beautiful, quaint cottage with plenty to read. The owners didn't forget a thing. Everything we needed. The private beach is awesome. Loved the kayaks. My 13 yr old loved climbing the rock formations and so did my dog. Great place to paint the scenery. Fully equipped kitchen, grill really came in handy. Plenty of hot water in the shower. Even a little hummingbird feeder where a fat little hummingbird came to visit. Lots of wildlife to view, too. I loved sitting on the deck for my morning coffee. Lots of things to do in the area for little day trips. The travel guides in the cabin were handy for info regarding that. I think it was the best week of my dog's life. Very easy to book, painless. I'm sure I will go again."

  • The Best Maine Experience Ever!

"Dear Carroll and Maureen -- it doesn't seem possible that exactly one week ago today we driving away from Somerled for the last time. I want you know that my family had a spectacluar time! Four generations of my family (Mom and Dad, my three sisters, 4 nieces and assorted husbands and great-nieces) will never forget our visit to Maine and your wonderful home. It was spacious and beautiful. I must confess that I was a bit nervous driving up that long gravel driveway, but once you get there -- oh my -- you never want to leave! We've rented many homes in Maine, other States and in Europe and I can honestly say that this was the best. Beautifully maintained, fully stocked beyond my wildest imagination and a million dollar setting. That view is incredible! I looked forward to getting up every morning and sitting out on the deck with a cup of coffee to watch the seals swim by and the lobsterr men pulling up their traps. We spent a day in Acadia, took a great whale watching cruise out of Lubec, drove over the Campobello and even found some time for relaxing. We dug for clams and made a huge pot of clam chowder. Picked wild blueberries. Made our own lobster rolls. It was the quintessential Maine experience. If you'll allow us, I feel certain that Jeff and I will be back. Perhaps next time with friends. Thank you again for making your home available to us. Please know that if anyone ever asks you for a reference, we'd be happy to extol the many virtues of Somerled. Sincerely -- Don and Jeff"

  • A Great Week at The Belvedere

"What can I say but wow. A beautiful house inside and out. It had everything we could ask for, it was clean, bright and huge. We went up with 6 adults and 4 children, we did have to bring a crib for our 10 month old and a blowup toddler bed for our two year old but we had a ton of space to really spread out. The wrap around deck was amazing and the screened in area was perfect for dusk when the bugs came around. The pictures don't do the house justice. The kitchen is great with plenty of matching dishes and pots and pans, and a nice gas grill helped a lot with meal prep. The lighted pathway to the dock and swim float was perfect the water level of the lake was pretty low so you had to wade out a little before you could swim but I was able to float my smaller bass boat up to the dock. The fishing was very good with half a dozen large bass and lots of white perch caught. The house is about 3/4 of a mile off of the road with only one other small lake house next door but we didn't hear much of them and only occasionally saw them, in fact I think we counted less than 10 motor boats on the lake all week. A very, very, quiet place with lots of loons swimming around a sounding off. Down town Eastport was only about 25 minutes away by car and there are several general stores closer. The one thing I'd add to the place would be a small second refrigerator but we brought a medium sized cooler for our adult beverages. I'd stay here again in a heart beat, I can't wait to get back."

  • Fantastic Maine vacation

"Exactly as advertised. The cabin was so reasonable we were able to book it for 2 weeks even though we could only stay 9 days. 9 days wasn't enough, we hated to leave. We only left the cabin to grocery shop and one day went to Cutler nature preserve on Rt. 191 along the bold coast. The ocean was very foggy and we could see much but I would still recommend the hike. We ate at Helen's in Machias on the way back and it was wonderful. I had the clams and it is the 1st time since I left Massachusetts 40 years ago that I have had clams the way nature intended, with whole clam and not just strips. The weather was glorious only rained twice, once at night! Cool nights perfect for sleeping. Hardly saw any people and then only if we left our end of the lake. Loons were the perfect entertainment and the lake is perfect. Thank you Anne and Nathan for sharing your wonderful cabin."
