  • Terrific cozy cottage perfect for our family of 4

"We chose this cottage based on its location to several of the attractions and towns we wanted to visit. We are from Virginia so we wanted to have a home base in Maine while we could explore but we also needed a place that supplied linens, towels, and a furnished kitchen. We wanted to be off of the beaten path not in a camp ground. This cottage offered privacy and plenty to do. Our children are (9 & 10) and enjoyed the use of the kayaks around the pond as did we. There were a great selection and amount of supplied life vests. They were able to explore in the water and the land (small beach and woods). The screened in porch was one of our favorite places - eating, reading, and game playing. Even when it rained, we sat outside not getting wet. We had brought a few of our favorite games from home but we found there were tons of games to choose from already at the cottage. The kitchen was small but totally usable. We would eat a later lunch out exploring then come home and eat a light dinner on the porch. We found everything we needed in the kitchen. The local grocery store was about 15 minutes away (if that) and there were several farm stands close by. I would and have already recommended this cottage to friends and family. I hope to be able to go back again!"

  • Great House and Property in a wonderful setting!

"Our second vacation in your lovely Maine home was even better than the one last year -- except that we should have stayed longer! There are so many things to do nearby that it was hard to fit them all into two weeks. We also enjoy just relaxing on the large deck, gazing out at the water and the birds or watching the full moon rise over the river. Having the Botanical Gardens within a mile is great - we enjoy the gardens as well as the kayak trips that are run from their location. Porters Preserve, Gregory Preserve and Oven Mouth are our favorite hiking areas nearby. My husband loves bicycling down River Road and over to Southport and we both like to drive down to enjoy lunch or dinner overlooking Townsend Gut at Robinson's Wharf. We entertained friends at your house this summer - both for a barbeque and a lobster dinner. Purchased the lobsters at nearby Trevett Store. Your kitchen is so well equipped, entertaining was a pleasure. We also enjoy the huge and interesting selection of books that fill your house. We are looking forward to another, longer, stay next summer."

  • It doesn't get much better than this!

"This was our first stay at the Boathouse cottage and will definitely not be our last! We were looking for a private place to stay that would be within walking distance to town, and we found it here. The walk to town is very short, but you'd never know it, given the privacy of the Boathouse. After exploring the entire town, we truly feel that the view from the cottage is the best in town. The cottage itself is the perfect size for a couple, and the view from the picture window in the bedroom is incredible. The kitchen is modestly equipped, but it worked perfectly for us, as we didn't want to do a whole lot of cooking. We didn't see the need, when there were so many restaurants within walking distance! Shane generously told us to let us know if there was anything we needed and didn't have; there wasn't. We did make use of the grill on the deck, which was great. The cottage is right next to the Boothbay Harbor Shipyard. There was some activity there during the week, but the noise was minimal and never bothered us. The best thing about the cottage is the rooftop deck, as well as the use of the large oceanfront lawn and dock. We really enjoyed our nightly trips to the rooftop to look at the stars (including a couple of shooting stars). We enjoyed wine and snacks on the lawn one night with Shane, who is an extremely personable host. We truly believe there's no better place to stay in Boothbay Harbor (if you need more space, check out Shane's other properties on the same lot: Landings East and Sur La Mer). We can't recommend the Boathouse cottage enough!"

  • Great value for a family vacation.

"We very much enjoyed our stay at Anne's Cottage. "Sea View" is a bit deceiving but regardless it is located in a quiet area which was very pleasant for a spring stay The trees were blooming and the smell of lilacs was in the air. It is located across the street from the beach with houses and big beautiful trees blocking the view for the most part. The cottage is very convenient to restaurants and shops.. We found the cottage very clean and supplied with all you may need other than food for meals. The downstairs bedroom was geared towards children and one of the windows had no curtain. Would not think a couple would be comfortable there. The upstairs bedroom was very comfortable. Woke up to the beautiful Maine sunshine coming in the windows. The bathroom has a washer and dryer along with a tub/shower. We did have to hang a sheet over the window. LOL It is right beside the toilet and tub and when the lights are on at night it can offer quite a peep show. The neighbors are not close but we did see them out in their yards often. Easy fix and not a problem. I quess if I had a complaint it would be lack of comfortable seating in the living room. There is a nice love seat and only a wooden chair. A pretty chair but not one to relax in. Off the living room is a large deck. We very much enjoyed sitting out there enjoying nature. I would not recommend the cottage for 2 couples to stay but definitely for an affordable family trip to Maine. Since getting home I have suggested it to a few of my friends. There are not a lot of frills like you might expect from a VRBO rental but it is a true taste of Maine and very comfortable. I would definitely stay there again."
