  • Perfect family vacation, walked into town everyday

"An adorable cottage with an amazing location!! Stayed here with our 3 year old daughter and 2 month old son. Walked the beach across the street during low tide, spent time everyday at the park across the street and walked into town everyday for breakfast, lunch, dinner or just an ice cream. Karen and her husband are extremely friendly. Started the vacation off with Karen handing me a glass of prosecco when meeting up with her to get the keys at their art gallery in town. We came the week of the 4th, we walked to the church lawn about a 1/4 mile from the house to watch the fireworks across the harbor. In the future I'd like to stay during windjammer week which was the week before. Looks like they have a lot of activities that would have been fun. Could not say enough good things about this cottage and the location!"

  • An absolute delight!

"We have been booking a rental property in Maine for the first week in Sept for several years now. We've stayed in some absolutely delightful places, but the Arden Cottage Carriage House is by far the best !! There is so much to rave about. I'll start with the very high construction values of the property itself. It is beautiful, stylish and unique, but still manages to feel very appropriately "Mainely". The property is perfectly equipped; beautifully furnished; very high quality bed linens, excellent wifi.... I could go on and on!! The setting is to die for -- wow! -- this alone is worth the "price of admission". I spent many an hour just sitting on the knoll of the hill in front of the house, enjoying the view. It was great to watch the birdlife in the cove and watch the (12 ft) tides come and go. The grounds of the house are another big plus -- there are lots of beautiful spots scattered around the property where you can sit on adirondack chairs, benches -- even a hammock seat -- and enjoy the cove. There's a great fit pit -- with firewood supplied -- which we enjoyed on several nights. Out back there's a peaceful, secluded vegetable garden (with bench to sit on) from which we were able to harvest fresh veggies and herbs. Then there's the dock, complete with kayaks for exploring. The caretakers were responsive when we needed them (a light outside burned out which they replaced right away). The proximity to Boothbay Harbor, the Coastal Gardens, Damariscotta, Bath etc is another big plus. All in all, this property was just wonderful. I'd go back t in a heartbeat!!"

  • Wonderful Stay

"My husband and I stayed in the 2 bedroom for a week. Loved the colors used ! Best of all was the porch - great views - tide in and tide out! There was a huge family gathering in the large home next door. Was wonderful to see so many generations having a wonderful time together. They had fireworks over the water - fabulous ! Would only recommend that 1 couple stay here as there is no closet or place to put your clothes, etc. in the queen room. we used the double as our closet. worked out great! Would highly recommend this property to anyone. We just loved the place. Thank you for our wonderful stay. Mary & George"

  • It doesn't get much better than this!

"This was our first stay at the Boathouse cottage and will definitely not be our last! We were looking for a private place to stay that would be within walking distance to town, and we found it here. The walk to town is very short, but you'd never know it, given the privacy of the Boathouse. After exploring the entire town, we truly feel that the view from the cottage is the best in town. The cottage itself is the perfect size for a couple, and the view from the picture window in the bedroom is incredible. The kitchen is modestly equipped, but it worked perfectly for us, as we didn't want to do a whole lot of cooking. We didn't see the need, when there were so many restaurants within walking distance! Shane generously told us to let us know if there was anything we needed and didn't have; there wasn't. We did make use of the grill on the deck, which was great. The cottage is right next to the Boothbay Harbor Shipyard. There was some activity there during the week, but the noise was minimal and never bothered us. The best thing about the cottage is the rooftop deck, as well as the use of the large oceanfront lawn and dock. We really enjoyed our nightly trips to the rooftop to look at the stars (including a couple of shooting stars). We enjoyed wine and snacks on the lawn one night with Shane, who is an extremely personable host. We truly believe there's no better place to stay in Boothbay Harbor (if you need more space, check out Shane's other properties on the same lot: Landings East and Sur La Mer). We can't recommend the Boathouse cottage enough!"
