  • Wonderful vacation house

"I'm very late in submitting this review but I was reminded recently to do so because my kids still talk about going back again next summer. Ken was very responsive to my questions before we arrived and while we were there. The house is quite spacious-there were 4 adults and three kids there for most of the week. The deck is huge and was great to eat on or just hang out on with lovely views high above the pond. The pond itself was very clean, quiet and warm and we took full advantage of the kayak and canoe that were there and went out every day on them. My son also loved fishing off the dock. As other people mentioned it is a steep walk down to the pond from the house so it may not be suitable for older people. The lovely town of Damariscotta was only 10 minutes away with great shopping and restaurants. We had great meals at King Eider's Pub twice. We also visited Boothbay Harbor that was very picturesque with good shopping and restaurants. I highly recommend the boat trip from the Harbor out to Monhegan Island which we all agreed was the highlight of the week. We went for a leisurely but long hike and after had some well deserved beers at the Monhegan brewery. Along the way we saw seals and some spectacular scenery. We also visited Pemaquid Beach twice which was beautiful and the water was actually not too cold to swim in ! And the lighthouse and park were also great to visit. I would say that if given the choice I would be willing to pay a little extra to leave the garbage at the house. We were able to put the trash bags in our kayak on the roof of our car and bring it to the trash collection area but if you only had a car this could prove a bit challenging if you waited until the end of the week. It is a good 25 minute drive to the trash drop off point and while you're on vacation it's not something you want to be doing every couple of days. That however was only a small issue and would not deter us from returning to house again."

  • A+ for Arden

"A- plus for Arden! What an incredible piece of property! If you want to experience true New England, this beautiful carriage house is perfect! The impeccable accommodations are designed for a perfect couples get away! Arden Carriage House is centrally located so that we were able to take in the many lighthouses, sail, as well as visit several of the harbor towns adjacent to Boothbay! Both the interior and exterior were amazing! I especially loved the cedar doors, wood floors and arched wood ceilings! The cove was perfect for taking morning coffee on the dock and we even were visited by the seal that comes in mid morning to feed! We are already planning our return trip. Book early! Thank you to Abigail, Gayle, and Jim! Amy and LA, KY"

  • It couldn't have been better.

"My wife and I were looking for a last minute place to get away, far away, after a hectic spring and early summer work schedule that left us in need of a complete change of scene and change of pace, with no time even to think about planning a vacation in advance. As a VRBO owner, myself, I went to that website first. I don’t know what I even typed in to the search bar, but Marc Poirier’s “Artist Retreat” was the first possibility to pop up on the screen. I read the description: “post and beam open concept home,” “dead-end street in a quiet fishing village,” “five minute walk to…a lobster pound that will cook and serve you up some lobster and clams right on their deck.” “Beam me up, Scotty,” my heart sang as I checked the calendar and discovered that it was available for the dates I needed. The “Artists Retreat” did not disappoint. It was, indeed, a great and gracious home base for us to regroup and refocus, and enjoy the central Maine coast, from Wiscasset to Bar Harbor, from its many art galleries, museums and antique shops, to its breathtaking coves and coastline. Though the house came with a full kitchen, we found ourselves on the road most evenings at dinner time feasting harbor side in one town after the other on some of the best seafood I have had in my life. But, most special for me, was sitting at the kitchen table at 7 a.m. every morning, savoring my first cup of coffee, looking out the window at the cove beyond shrouded in mist, watching as the sun slowly rose burning through the haze to reveal the lobster boats riding at anchor and the islands beyond. It couldn’t have been any better."

  • A delightful vacation

"We celebrated our 50th anniversary with our children, their spouses and our grandchildren at the farm in August. We enjoyed every aspect of our week vacation. The kitchen was well equipped. Beds comfortable. All the CDs available for the children early in the morning were appreciated especially by the adults. Our evenings spent on the back deck and our daily walks through the fields so enjoyable and the barn was wonderful for the little ones to ride bikes. Our entire family found many things to do away from the farm. A wonderful way to celebrate an anniversary and a very enjoyable week for the family. Thank you for sharing this lovely farm."
