  • A Home While on the Road

"We stumbled across this listing as we were looking for a place to stay while in town visiting friends and family. We thought it might be too good to be true but thankfully we were wrong. The Souler House was a warm welcome, offering us everything we could possibly ask for. It's great location, just a few minutes from downtown Wiscasset, made it easy to get around to neighboring communities or anywhere we wanted to go. And every night when we returned, we felt like we were home. Jason has thought through so many of the details to make this a place you can stay for a few days or a few weeks. The beds were comfortable, the linens soft, the amenities well appointed and the decorations warm and welcoming. Jason was very responsive and provided great details of how to navigate the home and the neighborhood. It's a little hard to find from the street which isn't necessarily a bad thing. We had three people in our party and felt like we had plenty of breathing room. It could easily house a family of four or five, a group of friends, two couples, or even the solo traveller looking for some piece and quiet. Would definitely recommend (and have already) to friends and family and we will likely stay here again when our travels take us back to this part of Maine. There are several eating and drinking spots nearby but also consider stopping by a few of the downtown Wiscasset stores to pick up food and cook at home. We went on a Puffin Tour with Captain Fish's service out of Boothbay and it was well worth the trip and Captain Fish's was a great tour guide and even though two of our party are from Maine - they had never been on a Puffin tour and were very pleased. All three of us are vegetarians and found food options almost everywhere. Head over to BoothBay and get Mel's Wood-fired pizza. Looking to do some liquor tasting? Pay a visit to the local organic distillery, Split Rock Distilling...great guys, great spirits and organic (Seems to be a nice excursion for someone staying at the green Solar Home) Lots to do in the area but be sure to leave plenty of time to take in the peace and quiet of the home and its surroundings."

  • Great House and Property in a wonderful setting!

"Our second vacation in your lovely Maine home was even better than the one last year -- except that we should have stayed longer! There are so many things to do nearby that it was hard to fit them all into two weeks. We also enjoy just relaxing on the large deck, gazing out at the water and the birds or watching the full moon rise over the river. Having the Botanical Gardens within a mile is great - we enjoy the gardens as well as the kayak trips that are run from their location. Porters Preserve, Gregory Preserve and Oven Mouth are our favorite hiking areas nearby. My husband loves bicycling down River Road and over to Southport and we both like to drive down to enjoy lunch or dinner overlooking Townsend Gut at Robinson's Wharf. We entertained friends at your house this summer - both for a barbeque and a lobster dinner. Purchased the lobsters at nearby Trevett Store. Your kitchen is so well equipped, entertaining was a pleasure. We also enjoy the huge and interesting selection of books that fill your house. We are looking forward to another, longer, stay next summer."

  • Another amazing week at "The Laughing Gull"

"This was our third stay at the Gull and each has been fabulous. I almost hesitate to write a review because the secret will be out. Among the many, there are three primary reasons for our return year after year. First, the property is well-maintained. Second, the location and view are what people go to Maine to experience. Third, it is comforting that the owners live directly across the street and are attentive to all needs. Eg. the water heater died Sunday and it was replaced Monday. The road on which the property is located is quiet and the only things that disturb that serenity is the crashing of waves and the gentle hum of the lobster boats casting their traps. There are all kinds of entertainment within a couple of miles: the fort which dates back to the French and Indian War; the archeology of the original Pemaquid settlement (compete with graveyard) which dates back to the 1640's; informal dining at the Contented Sole, Shaws, and the Seagull; fine dining at the Bradley; the incredible breakfasts at Cupboard Cafe; and the convenience of Reilly's grocery store just up the street. There is no need to leave the area, but if you choose to do so, within easy driving distance there are four noteworthy destinations: 1. Boothbay Harbor with its botanical gardens, aquarium, shopping, and tall ship cruises, 2. Rockland with its Farnsworth (Wyeth) Museum and newly opened Museum of Modern Art, 3. Damariscotta with a large grocery store, quaint shops, and movie theatre, and 4. Hardy Boat Cruises which sail to Monhegan Island and take evening cruises up and down the beautiful rocky coast of the peninsula. I cannot overestimate the importance of having the owners nearby. They are genuinely nice people committed to the area."

  • Outstanding!

"Exceptional rental- great location, clean and well maintained home and helpful owners. For a family of 6, we had everything we needed and plenty of room. Easy walk or bike to town and central to all hiking and swimming. Highly recommend!"
