  • Amazing Condo at Shawnee Peak! Perfect for our summer and fall getaway!

"We stayed at Cathy's lovely condo for 4 months! The condo was our home base while taking in all the wonderful sights of Maine and New Hampshire. Only 30 minutes to New Hampshire, an hour to Portland, and 3.5 hours from Bar Harbor. We took day trips all over Maine and New Hampshire. The condo is very clean, has spacious accommodations, and nice furniture for a family. There are 3 levels. The ground floor has 2 sets of bunk beds, a sectional sofa, a large flat screen TV with cable, and a full size bathroom. The second level is a large kitchen that is well equipped for cooking, a sofa and loveseat, table seating for 4, bar stools for 4, a huge flat screen TV with cable, half bath, and an automatic fireplace. There is an outside grill on the deck. The top floor has 2 bedrooms with a king and a queen, flat screen TV with cable in master bedroom, full bath with tub/shower, and a full sized washer and dryer. Great internet with wifi. Cell service. Two designated parking spaces. We were so happy with the condo. Cathy gave clear instructions for check-in, and was available to answer any questions via phone or text. We highly recommend Cathy's condo for any vacation.... whether a weekend, a week, or a month! Wonderful place to relax. Very quiet and peaceful. Note: Due to the stairs from one level to the next, would not recommend for someone with mobility/stair climbing issues."

  • The perfect summer family getaway

"I orginally wrote this about our 2015 stay: Last August was our third stay at Gilmore Camps and each have been idyllic. Tom is a great host--there if you need something, not if you don't. We have stayed in both Schoohouse and The Lodge--both are comfy and clean, but we like The Lodge better. The complex is wonderfully remote, with a great beach and gradual lake entry. Our grandkids have loved swimming, boating (provided canoes and kayaks), playing in the sand and exploring the lakeshore. One highlight of each year has been exploring the lake by canoe--it's a good trip crossing the lower lake where Gilmore Camps is located and up the narrow connector to the main lake, but it's worth the effort, including a lakeside fairy village built annually by one of the residents. Make sure you locate one of the nearby farms with stands (10 minute), where you can get fresh corn, and go out one evening to Ebenezer's Pub (15-20 minutes), particularly if there's a beer enthusiast in your party. And on the property, be sure to try out the outdoor showers Tom put in a couple of years ago, which are wonderful at night--staring up at a clear sky! Mostly, though, just expect the opportunity to relax and enjoy a family vacation you'll want to repeat over and over. Quiet days at the edge of the lake, peaceful evenings with a crackling fire. Every year, our grandkids hate to leave, and we eagerly look forward going back there this August! UPDATE: Last August (2016) was every bit as wonderful, despite not having the best weather week of the summer, and we look forward to our fifth stay at GIlmore Camps this August."
