  • Perfect and the Best Weekend of Our Lives

"My two sisters and I had the privilege of staying at this amazing House Island property with our families. We took our parents here, as a surprise, to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. To quote my parents, "It was perfect and the best weekend of our lives." It's been almost 3 weeks since we’ve been on House Island and a day hasn’t gone by that I haven't thought about how wonderful our time was on the island. The awesome weekend started off with quick and easy water taxi rides over to the island (we love Catherine!). Our most memorable memories are, and there are lots, waking up early and watching the sunrise, jumping off the docks, searching for sea glass on the wonderful beaches, exploring the forts, making s'mores by the fire, kayaking around the island, playing crochet in the huge grass yard, swinging in the hammocks, eating outside with our entire family of 14 while watching the sunset and just plain relaxing and enjoying our family time. What made it even more perfect, was not only the wonderful property and weather we had, but Gene, the care taker, he was fantastic. He was there for us for any need or special request we had. Want lobster? No problem, he arranged for lobster to be delivered to our dock! Want to go to Peaks Island for ice cream? No problem, we'll get you over there. He truly made our stay memorable. This was truly a special family vacation that we will all remember and talk about for the rest of our lives."

  • Beautiful and amazing experience

"It's been 2 weeks since I left Portland and I already miss it. So much to do, so much to visit and never quite enough time. The stay at Sue's was amazing. The home was clean, cozy, relaxing to the point that we didn't want to leave. I really have nothing but good things to say about our stay. The location is perfect. Walking distance from the beach, just a short drive to the Portland headlight and the adventures that come with that and literally feet away from an amazing bakery serving ridiculous bagels (and being a native New Yorker it's near sacrilege to admit that), cookies, coffee and whatever else u may need to start ur morning right. The stay and the home was exactly what we needed. I for sure would love to come back and would recommend this home to anyone who's thinking of staying."

  • Beautifully decorated, super clean and good location.

"This guest house is exactly as described. We enjoyed a four day stay in the area and were pleasantly surprised as to how quiet the area was. We were especially glad to be in a "neighborhood" area rather than in a tourist area. The beautiful city of Portland, the shopping area of Freeport and the other fine beaches (such as the one in Scarborough) are only about 30 minutes away. We fortunately had gorgeous weather which made those day trips most enjoyable. We were happy to find this gem in our first time using VRBO."
