  • Fantastic, fun, well-stocked lakefront house close to... well, you're not going to want to leave!

"Just got home from a week at Linda and Steve's place and I'm already regretting not booking it for two weeks. Our party of nine -- two couples with five kids -- had a total blast. I don't even know where to begin... Good thing I'm limited to 2700 characters. First of all, dealing with Linda was completely easy. We booked the house a few months in advance and between texting and email, it was cake locking things down. A few days before the trip, we went back and forth some more and she readily answered any and all of my questions. Met her and Steve at the house, we did a quick run-through of the place and off they went. The place is absolutely great. We've rented places all over -- villas in Tortola, houses in Vieques, Asheville, etc. -- and this was hands-down the best-stocked house I've ever stayed at. I cook and usually travel with an assortment of spices, but most of what I brought was here already. Their grill is great and gets to 700° in a flash. They've got All Clad pots (seriously!). It's a great house for kids. We brought five along (no, not all mine) and they all slept in a large bedroom with three beds and a sofa. They loved having some privacy and their own "secret hideout". The house is a little over an hour away from Portland, Maine, if you want to check out Allagash or some of the other great breweries and restaurants. It's about 45 minutes away from North Conway and some great White Mountains hiking. But truthfully... we were happiest just swimming off the dock, fishing, making fires and exploring in the kayak and canoe. There's so much to do at the house that it's pretty easy to get lazy and have a great time there. And there's a pool table, too. It's hard to tell from the pictures, but it's regulation size and it's *awesome*. Some fun/good restaurants nearby if you don't feel like manning the grill or shopping. We particularly liked Poor People's Pub in Wakefield and Jim's Wheelhouse up the road, which has about 40 pinball machines. Back to technicalities... the house was spotless when we got there. And when we were leaving, there was a crew of about 6 people heading in to undo the damage we did. So if cleanliness is your thing, don't sweat it. The beds were great. The lake is spring-fed, so you feel great when you get out and probably never need to take a shower. ;) I'm rambling, but it was an A+ week, the house was awesome and we'd go back in a heartbeat. Thanks Linda and Steve!"

  • Beautiful and relaxing

"We had a wonderful time staying at Chris' family cottage. Their was plenty of room for the 6 of us and the décor is beautiful. The location on the lake was peaceful and relaxing; and the water area was clean for swimming. I'd highly recommend staying here for anyone looking for a stress free vacation."

  • Cute & comfortable

"Needed a place to stay for 3 nights while in the area. Basic amenities included a kitchen (sans dishwasher), dining area with table, small deck, living room with DVD player, 1 bedroom with queen, 1 bedroom with twin and in-between area with 2 twins. Walking distance to lake. The only issue was occasional electrical overload which was easily remedied via the fuse box in the living room. Price was great and offered much more character than a hotel room. Owner easy to deal with. Would return."

  • Everything was perfect!

"This is an amazing cabin, we had a wonderful time just snowshoeing and ice fishing on the lake right off the back porch! The sunsets are amazing, and we love the gas fireplace. We look forward to visiting again, in both the winter and summer!"
