"We just spent Christmas week at this beautiful home on a river in rural maryland. We had a large party, including a 7 month old baby and my 89 year old father and many in between - everyone was very comfortable and had a wonderful time. There are so many living spaces, making it possible to have separate rooms and even separate spaces within the great room in case someone needed to get the baby to sleep or do a little work. We spent most of our time in the giant and well-stocked kitchen and in the great room, which has a fireplace at each end, a dining table in the middle, and floor to ceiling windows overlooking the water. Even in winter, the gorgeous sunrises and sunsets were spectacular. The beds were comfortable, and there is a large TV room upstairs that we used to accommodate extra sleeping sites for teenagers; there is also another TV/game room in the basement with pacman-type console and a nice air hockey table, as well as board games. Great family spot or spot for a group of friends! We would definitely come back to this house, and are considering trying to arrange a stay in the summer, when the dock and sun chairs and sun porches and kayaks could be used more than we could in December. The nearest grocery is not too close, but it's only a 10-15 minute drive and as long as you plan on this, the remote location is a lovely feature.
Not a problem for our group, but there are steps down into the sunken living room with no railing that might be difficult with very small children; the main stairs going up to the bedrooms are also uncarpeted and seem slippery and dangerous to me. Racing around in socks could be dangerous.
Thanks especially to Woody, who was always available to make us feel at home, to tell us how everything worked and where we might find what we needed; in addition when we left a laptop in the house, he quickly boxed it up and mailed it back to us - we are very grateful!"
