  • A superb home-base

"We recently visited the area to explore the Antietam National Battlefield and ride the C&O canal tow path. This was a comfortable and convenient base of operations for our stay. Both the Antietam Battlefield and tow path access are just minutes away. We were out of the house way more than at it, but found it quite comfortable, quiet, and a delightful place to stay. Morning coffee on the porch, before heading out on our day's mission, was a great way to start the day. And though we never cooked meals there, the kitchen was well appointed to do so. Nutters ice cream is a short walk, Burkholders Baked Goods is in town and worth a visit for a little "something sweet" to start the day, and just across the river in Sheperdstown are as many dining choices as you could ask for. We also took the train into DC for a day, - plenty of parking at the Brunswick train station, and only about a 20 minute drive. A delightful area to explore - and this is a fine place to stay smack dab in the middle of it all!"

  • Loved the Lazy Bear Lodge!

"We had a great time while we were at Lazy Bear! It was a beautiful, relaxing, and engaging location! We had a hard time leaving to go explore the Garrett County area :-) The accommodations were comfortable and roomy. The various floors allowed our group of 12 adults, mostly couples, to have separate time as needed and the common areas were large enough to allow us all to hang out. We especially loved the outside deck area and spent most of our time there, day and night. The hot tub was a hit with the gang and we spent much time relaxing there as well. The kitchen was roomy and accommodated making meals for 12 people easily, and the dining space was adequate for a large group as well! The bedrooms were comfortable and the shared spaces were entertaining. Perfect! Everything about the location was as described on the location advertisement and subsequent email descriptions, so we were well-prepared for our visit! The only suggestions I would have for your visit would be to pick up a little extra toilet paper and perhaps a few trash bags. We also got our own bag of ice. Otherwise, all the basics are provided at the lodge and all you have to do is get food for cooking. :-) A great stay!"

  • not exactly "No Worries". read the whole review though

"Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was somewhat dirty. I was very happy with the location. I was satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Celebrated my birthday weekend here. Checked in on a Friday and checked out on a Sunday. A couple of problems came up during the weekend: 1) Gas grill outside is kept pretty greasy and dirty. Had to do some serious cleaning when I first got there. The scraper/steel wool was also almost completely clogged so it was a bit useful but the final cleaning had to be done with balled up aluminum foil. 2) Gas grill had some burners that weren't working. It's hard to grill up burgers and hotdogs for 9 people when you can only grill 4 burgers at a time 3) Ants. Crawling on the kitchen counter. I cleaned them up when i first arrived and i thought that would be the end of it because there were ant traps but the ants came back. The ant traps were basically full of dead ants so I doubt they were working much. 4) Mice. We were eating dinner one night and a mouse went running across the hall and under the fridge...not cool. We kept the front door closed and all the screens shut. We packed everything up in plastic bags and put everything in the fridge Why didn't I give fewer stars? Because the staff was awesome and responsive. When we had an issue with the ants and the microwave not working. They sent a guy over within the hour. He gave us another microwave and swapped out the ant traps. No ants after this. When the mouse went scurrying by at 10 at night, I called the front office emergency number and they sent someone over to set up traps. No more mouse problems. It was a field mouse so i doubt they have a regular mouse problem but existing traps would have probably prevented this. Problems can always come up but it's customer service that can make or break a trip. Some things I wish they would have taken care of before we came (grill, ants, microwave, mouse traps), but their response was professional and excellent. If you rent from them, I would say check the house thoroughly as soon as you get there and give them a call. They WILL take car"
