  • "Best family vacation ever"

"The title just about wraps up the general sentiment of our family regarding our week long stay in this beautiful vacation home. We all agreed our accommodations could not have been more perfect to fit our needs. From the spaciousness of the interior to the gorgeous views to the lake, to the beautifully landscaped lake front exterior, we were in unison with our total enjoyment during our week's stay. We were blessed with excellent weather and therefore able to take full advantage of the balconies, patios, fire pit, docks and hot tub. We had four children in attendance (ages 3-9) who were able to run and play throughout the gorgeous grounds. The ease of access to the lake provided many hours of water focused fun for all of us. It was hard to say goodbye to this place, but we plan on returning again in the near future. Thank you George and Suzy for allowing us to enjoy your Deep Creek home."

  • Paradise in Deep Creek Lake

"It’s almost impossible to describe the transformation of one’s soul after spending a week at The Bird’s Nest! Ms. Polly felt like a friend long before I arrived and her peacefulness cannot help but to seep into your soul. DCL is a beautiful area that called me from past memories. It’s been 15 years since I’ve been here and I’ll promise myself this: it will not be that long before I again return. The state park is a wonderful place for a nature lover and her dog. Kayaking every day restores me. No alarm clock, no work, no worries. Swallow Falls is a great hike! I ate at Ace’s, Uno’s (w/my dog) and Cornish Manor. All were good! Went to Canoe on the Run but left w/o eating. The hot tub at the end of my day was just what these tired bones needed. What was the best part? Ms. Polly! She was a delight! She gave me lots of information, where to go and how to get there. Maggie was almost always at her side! I’ve made a friendship here! Take the kayak and paddle all the way down to the right as far as you can. If you are lucky you will see the bald eagle proudly showing who is boss! Lake swimming! Oh to this Carolina girl it was heaven!! Cool and refreshing – I came here looking for an answer – I didn’t find it, I found so much more. Thank you for sharing The Bird’s Nest! I will always remember you and my time here. I will keep you in my prayers! Jane & Bailey the Boxer"

  • A superb home-base

"We recently visited the area to explore the Antietam National Battlefield and ride the C&O canal tow path. This was a comfortable and convenient base of operations for our stay. Both the Antietam Battlefield and tow path access are just minutes away. We were out of the house way more than at it, but found it quite comfortable, quiet, and a delightful place to stay. Morning coffee on the porch, before heading out on our day's mission, was a great way to start the day. And though we never cooked meals there, the kitchen was well appointed to do so. Nutters ice cream is a short walk, Burkholders Baked Goods is in town and worth a visit for a little "something sweet" to start the day, and just across the river in Sheperdstown are as many dining choices as you could ask for. We also took the train into DC for a day, - plenty of parking at the Brunswick train station, and only about a 20 minute drive. A delightful area to explore - and this is a fine place to stay smack dab in the middle of it all!"
