  • The Perfect Escape!

"The screen door to the patio stuck a little. That's it. Period. Otherwise, this place was perfect! Three adults (two seniors), two children, and one dog spent a spectacular week at Tofu's Retreat ("TR")! The property is huge (think backyard, front yard, pool, and football field (besides property in the woods)! The house is great. While nothing is as comfortable as home, TR was beautiful and great. If the house included just the remarkable screened in room (not porch but spectacular wood paneled room) and second floor wrap-around porch looking over the pool (picture taking a deep breath and enjoying morning coffee or an evening glass(es) of wine. The pool was perfect and having the heating option was great on our one cool day. Everything you need is there. There's plenty of exploring to do in the beautiful little town of Alford, and Great Barrington is an easy 10 minute drive with great restaurants, CVS, grocery stores and a great town center to answer all of your needs. Most importantly, TR's owners, Jeff and Greg, were amazing. They were accessible for all of my dumb questions and incredibly kind and caring about everything! They took a genuine and vested interest in my dog, who was going through chemotherapy (they made sure that I had the number for the best vet nearby and an emergency vet!). We loved TR and would highly recommend it!"

  • Summer Magic

"Going on vacation with 3 kids under the age of 6 can be tough- but this house made it possible to relax and have a great time. We'd swim while the babies took naps, play lawn games in the yard and then BBQ and make s'mores at night. They had a ton of movies for kids on hand as well as a good number of books, toys and game equipment in the basement. Here were our favorite activities if you have young ones: 1.) Head around the corner to Cantina 229 and have tacos outside and let the kids see the farm animals. 2.) Great Barrington: Have dinner (and play ping pong) at the Prairie Whale and then go to Soco Creamery for dessert. On Friday afternoons, you can take the kids to the Mount for free jazz (and running around) or just go to the Giggle Park playground in GB and let them dance around to the free jazz in the park there. 3.) Jacob's Pillow- the kids really liked the free inside/out performance 4.) The Hancock Shaker Village had a ton of activities for kids and is just a pretty setting to run around 5.) The Berkshire Museum in Pittsfield had lots of interactive exhibits- including dinosaur costumes. If you need a rental with a little bit of separation (for two families, in-laws or sleeping babies)- this place is perfect!"

  • Gorgeous, tranquil and a great location.

"This was our second time renting this charming house for our group of 5 couples. From beginning to end it is a pleasure to do business with Gayle. The house is immaculate and well furnished. Our group enjoys meals out on the patio at the large dining table or just lingering with morning coffee while taking in the tranquility and views of gardens and woods. The bedrooms have comfortable mattresses, luxurious linens and central air conditioning. The owners suite can be an add on 5th bedroom for a supplemental cost. NB: The AC up there isn't that good because it's over the attached garage but with the addition of a fan it's ok. Not our favorite room during a heat wave! The added bonus of Tanglewood lawn tickets, VIP parking pass and lawn chairs was appreciated. We look forward to returning next summer. We like that it is located about half way between Great Barrington and Stockbrodge so it is convenient to Jacobs Pillow, Tanglewood, the Riverwalk and Lake Mansfield in Great Barrington and the theaters in Pittsfield."

  • Sprawling, welcoming home with great outdoor spaces

"This house was as advertised on the website and was perfect for our family. It's a sprawling house with lots of bedrooms and bathrooms, a comfortable living room, a beautiful kitchen, a screened in porch and many decks and patios on which to enjoy the beautiful setting. We were in the area for a family wedding, and it was ideal, both for our family to stay at and for other members of the extended family to drop by. The house was clean and showed much pride of ownership. We would definitely recommend it to others and would stay there again."
