  • Lovely house in the South Berkshires

"This is a lovely house in the South Berkshires. We're used to the "traditional" Berkshire rental: a little run down, a little musty, with about 25 years of owners' knickknacks on display, and noisy neighbors close by. If that's what you like, don't rent this house! It’s recently renovated so the inside is new -- and very nicely finished. The kitchen is super well equipped and included tons of food. Little finishing touches made it seem like a casual boutique hotel. Relaxed but delightful. And that's just the inside. Outside is a huge lawn (lots of open space, no other houses in sight) with dramatic plantings, beautiful flowers, a vibrant vegetable garden, and tons of birds. More goldfinches than I've ever seen in one place, plus woodpeckers, hummingbirds, etc. A short walk (under 5 minutes) to West Lake, which has to be one of the quietest lakes around -- no motor boats, often no people. There's no real beach and the bottom is kind of rocky but the water is great. You can drive a short way to more conventional swimming places with lifeguards and roped off areas (York, Lake Garfield, Benedict Pond) but we didn't bother. It's a bit of a drive to Tanglewood, Outlet Mall, supermarkets, etc., so you'll want to consolidate those trips. Internet is excellent; cell phone is okay (find a good spot and don't wander around). There's also a land line. Bedrooms are a drop snug but fine. Livingroom/dining area is roomy and the screen porch (with another dining table) is really the best place to eat. Only one bathroom but there's also an outdoor shower (why shower indoors when you can be outside??). Big almost empty double garage for your cars (if you want) or just use it for bikes – or as a workout space if you have a rainy day. Doug was relaxed and accommodating and is just an email away if you have any questions."

  • Incredible!

"What an incredible romantic place. Totally secluded and private. The pictures don't do it justice. Make sure to bring lots of firewood because the fire is awesome. Restaurants were 25 min away which didn't bother us but something to think about. Cute ski mountain literally down the block. If you like hiking or snow shoeing tons of trails a short drive."

  • Home away from home

"Three families from CT with kids ages 3-10 were very fortunate to celebrate New Year at the lake house. You can't really call it a rental property. As soon as you walk in, you feel more like at home. The house has everything you need-from fully stocked kitchen to kids sleds/toys/games downstairs. Initially we were searching for the rental in VT and NH since some of us are avid skiers and we wanted to make sure we have some snow. At the same time we were trying to avoid 3+hours driving with small kids. Fortunately, we were able to find this amazing house with stunning lake views only one hour away from us. Commute was quick and easy, we followed owner's directions and found a house without a problem. Kitchen/bathrooms were immaculately clean. My husband and his friend did ice fishing and even managed to catch a trout. Moms went for a walk around the neighborhood and kids really enjoyed sled rides around the house. If your kids are interested in snow tubing, it is half an hour away-lots of fun Good book collection in case you forgot your book at home. I will highly recommend this house and we will definitely be back. Thank you so much for hosting us!"

  • Amazing house for large group

"Stayed here for a four day weekend to celebrate New Years with a group of ten of us. The house was perfect could not ask for a more accommodating place to get away from the city and relax with friends. There was more than enough room where ten adults felt spread out and there where extra beds and a futon still empty. The layout of the house is ideal all the bedrooms are upstairs with an extra tv space. The down stairs is a large open space with living room, dining room, and the kitchen. We had a chef come and cook for us for NYE and it was great being able to spread out in one room. Went skiing a few days at Jiminy Peak which is less than an hour drive. Every one already can't wait to return in the summer."
