  • Sweet, quiet little spot!

"Even at the height of the high season in August, our weekday sojourn in the cabin was quiet and peaceful -- we barely saw a soul! We enjoyed swimming in both lakes, tromping through the woods, and just soaking up the silence and birdsong on the deck. Nothing fancy, this is just a comfortable, homey cabin in the woods that was perfect for two families. The owner was responsive to all requests. Note that this feels like the middle of nowhere -- you are not close to stores or shops of any kind, so bring what you need."

  • Lovely vacation spot

"We had a very nice stay at Mason Hill. The barn is beautiful and very well maintained. Ian and Jane are lovely hosts and were very helpful. The location is great - we spent a lot of time in nearby North Adams and other towns. The Mt. Greylock visitors center is just a short drive away. The neighborhood is very peaceful and quiet. We found the open plan layout manageable with young kids. The only issue we had was that the owners have an unfenced in-ground swimming pool in their backyard that is just a few yards away from the back door of the barn - this could be dangerous if your kids are the type to wander outside on their own. Overall, the space worked really well for our weeklong summer vacation."

  • serene cabin with lake access

"We are a professional couple and were looking for a place outside of NYC to get away during the weekends (summer 2016.) This was a very good choice for us. The lake and private dock are exactly as shown in the photos. Spectacular, serene and unspoiled. The lake is clear and lovely for swimming - many are not because of too many motor boats and overgrowth of invasive weeds. We enjoyed watching the migratory birds and relaxing on the dock with endless magical sunsets. The house and property are generally very quiet. With excellent high speed internet we were able to get away from NYC but still stay connected to work -- which was necessary for us. We attended concerts at Tanglewood -- it is a very short drive and it's easy to get lawn tickets. We found many good places to purchase food and wine. We hiked the nearby trails which were never crowded and so well maintained. The owner could not have been more responsive. Very easy to deal with anytime we had a question. The house is rustic, with well equipped kitchen and both gas and charcoal grills. We really enjoyed our stay."

  • Perfect for a Big Family with Little Kids

"What a beautiful and perfect spot for a week's vacation with the family. We had 10 adults and 5 kids (4 under 5 years old), and the house held us wonderfully. The bedroom setup worked out great with enough beds (+1 pull-out couch) for the grownups (5 couples) and a couple with enough room for pack n plays, a bunk room that 2 4-year-olds shared and could've been used for 4 kids had they been older, and even a cool nook of a room with two built-in twins that was perfect for a 13-year-old girl to escape the rest of our craziness. The common spaces had plenty of seating for both hanging out and eating together, and the kitchen was well stocked with all the cookware and dishes we needed. There are 3 separate TVs, so plenty of ways to split up different tastes, although we never had to use them. And I have to mention the very new looking and huge washer and dryer as they were very useful to have. The property itself is amazing. The huge, flat yard between the house and the lake was just perfect for lots of running around and playing games. The small beach was great for the kids and has a nice gentle slope into the water. The kids loved jumping off the small dock, and we made frequent use of the kayaks and canoe for paddling around and even a little fishing. This particular area of the lake was particularly quiet and calm. There's a peninsula on one side offering lots of protection and the entire opposite coastline belongs to a park and a health center, so it's all trees with no development. If you're looking for an easy lake vacation with family and friends, you'd be hard pressed to find something better."
