"Our group of 7 adults and one 5-year-old traveled to Williamsburg in late September to attend a family wedding in Amherst. Flower Hill Farm, about a half-hour drive from the event, was a peaceful and quiet (no TV, good wifi) alternative to staying in a downtown hotel. We reserved the whole house for three nights, which gave us the use of the dining room as well as access for all to the upstairs balcony. Though we were too early for fall foliage, the grounds were still delightful to explore. The owner, an artist and photographer whose works and collected objects enrich the house, was out of town but provided detailed instructions (including soft shoes in the house and vegetarian cooking only, to preserve the ecological retreat atmosphere) and kept in touch to be sure we were comfortable. Taking advantage of local information left for us, we stocked up on maple syrup at Paul's Sugar House (they ship), ate a tasty breakfast at Bread Euphoria, and enjoyed a walk at a nearby Audubon sanctuary. The beds were comfortable, and the couple who stayed in the studio loved the clawfoot tub."
