  • The Perfect House

"This house is very special. Beautifully decorated, very bright, even on a cloudy day and incredibly clean. The kitchen is wonderful and great for preparing big family meals. I loved the two dish washers!! The living spaces are large yet intimate, plenty of spaces to gather. The bedrooms each with very comfortable beds and bathroom ensuite works well for a large group. The outdoor space is very private with lovely private views. Kris was extremely responsive to all our inquiries before and during our stay. We would love to return next summer."

  • Four Perfect Vineyard weeks

"We vacationed on the Vineyard for over 20 years. After selling our island home last year, we missed it terribly. I contacted Monica initially because I read that pets were "possible" and also because we love West Tisbury. I am so glad that we did. The home is magical. Since she uses it herself, the difference from an ordinary rental home is obvious. Lots of extra touches like Emeril, Le Creuset and Calphalon cookware. My husband and I love to cook and we had fun watching the food channel (in view in the living room from the kitchen prep counter) and trying new recipes. The counter is a large butcher block prep area that doubles as a breakfast bar. Monica even left her food processor for us to use. So many pretty little touches like Toile valences and bedcovers, down quilts, Ralph Lauren sheets and towels, lavender hand soap in the bathrooms. Things were not cheap or chintzy and we appreciated that very much. Since being on the Vineyard so many years, we share a concern for the local environment and also appreciated her leaving ecofriendly dish and laundry detergents in the house. We practically didn't have to bring anything. The outdoor furniture was as beautiful as the indoor furniture. Teak chaises, a love seat with comfortable cushions. Simple extras like that made us feel really at home. One of my absolute favorite rooms was the "sunroom." On rainy days, we would sit on the couch reading, looking out at the woods and gardens, listening to the rain. The room was so cozy and quiet, we felt like we were miles away from everything. Unlike further up-island, the shops are only 5-10 minutes away by car. The house feels really spacious and was easier for my husband since there are no stairs. I was worried when my adult children and grandchildren visited for a long weekend that we would feel crowded or bothered by the noise. We weren't at all. The floor plan seemed to work well for everyone. My grandchildren brought their bikes and loved the bike paths nearby that cross the island. We had one problem with the washing machine. I think my grandchildren overstuffed it or used to much soap. I called Monica and Roy came to fix it that afternoon. (We already knew Roy. He's terrific.) An added plus: Despite her hesitation, Monica allowed us to bring our golden, Benny, with us. Everyday, we took long walks along the country road and Lambert's Cove and visited the Scottish Bakehouse. We had such a relaxing time, we booked the month again for next year."

  • Comfortable Island Property

"Great house for a family. The house, which is nicely decorated with antique furniture and very well maintained, has an interesting history that includes stays by Marilyn Monroe, Arthur Miller and Saul Bellow. It has a furnished (including a farm table and chairs for dining) screened porch with skylights that runs the length of the side of the house. The porch opens onto a sizable partially fenced yard with grass and flower gardens surrounded by mature trees. The house is not air conditioned, but the porch has ceiling fans and the interior rooms have plenty of windows for ventilation and can, if necessary, be cooled by portable fans. The bedrooms are good sized, and the beds comfortable. There are two and 1/2 baths in the house. The half bath is downstairs off a bedroom; the two full baths are upstairs, both with tubs (but only one of them has a shower; you have to stand in the tub to use it). There is a spacious outdoor shower which we used regularly. The kitchen is small but efficient; it is very well equipped with modern appliances and ample cookware and dishes. The owner lives nearby and he and his wife greeted us on arrival. No doubt that they would be very responsive if there were any problems (we didn't have any). Property location is close (around a corner) to Alley's general store and a sandwich shop, next door to a church, across the street from a playground, and a block from the Grange Hall where events and outdoor markets regularly occur. Although there is daytime traffic on a major road about 1/2 block away that goes up-island, Music Street where the house is located is usually quiet. Both streets are virtually silent by late evening and overnight. This property would be suitable for cold weather stays since it has fireplaces and is furnished to make it the sort of place where you'd like to curl up with a good book (there are plenty to choose from throughout the house)."
