  • Excellent vacation!

"We just returned from a weeks stay and completely enjoyed ourselves. The house has all the conveniences of home (air, washer/dryer, wifi, etc.) but with a gorgeous lake and boat. The house is completely stocked with towels, linen, bedding, blankets and plenty of pillows. The kitchen is well stocked too, with appliances, dishware, pots & pans, utensils, etc. The only thing we found missing was a potato peeler, for which we added two. Three of our four adult children dropped in throughout the week and loved it as well. Our 10 year old grandson fished and swan his heart out. It was a relaxing week and perfect getaway. The gas can for the boat was not where the instructions said it would be, so we called the owner who immediately answered and told us where to find it. Our daughter and her family rented the same week directly across the lake from us with very similar furnishing, minus the towels & bedding which they had to bring, plus no air. They paid $700.00 more than our rental, albeit it was dog friendly. Highly recommend this rental to anyone who wants convenience and some peaceful downtime. Thank you Paul Bailey. • The best first family vacation!

"This is the first vacation my husband and I have experienced in more than a decade, and the very first family vacation we have ever tried. My oldest son has autism and, until recently, it was practically impossible for us to do many of the "normal" family activities that everyone takes for granted - including vacations. My husband and I both grew up vacationing in the summer, with a special focus on experiencing all that northern Michigan has to offer. It has been our deepest wish to take our boys up there and show them all the things we loved to do as kids, (and try a few new things we've never before tried). This week could not have been more perfect! Every evening we sat down and "planned" the day trip we would make the next day. Every day this week it was supposed to RAIN too, so I was nervous how that would go. However, no matter where we went (the Island, Tahquamenon Falls, White Fish Point, Sturgeon Bay Beach) the weather was more than perfect. Seriously- not too hot, not too humid and NO rain. We really felt as though we had a charmed vacation. And we are very grateful. Everyone enjoyed the experience and the boys are already talking about what we should do next year. The cottage was the PERFECT "home base" for us while we introduced the boys to northern Michigan. It provided a home-like space where we could build in a routine and my son could feel comfortable. It was small enough to offer the cozy, "cottage-feel" I wanted, while still offering sufficient space and privacy when someone needed to catch their breath. It was very clean, well-maintained, and offered all the amenities as advertised in the listing. The owner even provided a ready-to-light fire pit for roasting marshmallows at night. The cottage is perfectly located a few blocks from downtown Mackinaw City with easy access to parks, beaches, shopping, restaurants, etc. The owners were only a phone call away and offered great tips about restaurants to try and a lovely local beach (that was the most beautiful/clean beach I have ever seen!) We could not be more satisfied or grateful for such wonderful accommodation. Thank you Diane, for a providing a safe, comfortable home base where we could experience a really fun and memorable family vacation. To see our boys enjoy all our favorite childhood activities, explore many beautiful places in northern Michigan and, most of all, to feel like a "normal" family is truly priceless. We highly recommend this cottage."

  • Quiet, peaceful, retreat

"We spent our 40th anniversary along with another couple at this lovely lake house. The Decour was homey and friendly with many antiques. Lots of Lodge Decour which we love made us feel right at home. you never felt like you were in someone else's home but your own. Very kid friendly with lots of ample supplies available for kids and adults to entertain theirselves. We enjoyed putting the puzzle together that was there at the house and sitting in the living room enjoying the fireplace and the amazing view of the lake. I actually read a book. We were there when it was a little bit cold but we still were able to Wade in the water and collect stones to bring home. The owners have thought of every possible thing to make your stay more pleasant Even water shoes of all sizes for the beach are available in the screen room. The price for this home and what you get was the BEST we found in the area. The large spacious bedrooms are far from each other which make this a great retreat for couples. Tons of privacy if you want it and together space, if you don't. For some people a con may be that there is not Wi-Fi or a large screen television but for us it was wonderful to revert back to actually communicating with each other and not using handheld devices to entertain ourselves. The guys golfed at the Indian Lake course twice and loved it. We loved the house so much we only did site seeing one day during our 5-day stay. We hope to be able to come again and enjoy this beautiful home."
