  • Exceptional Lakefront

"The Lake Esau rental worked perfectly for my family. A beautiful lake with minimal boat traffic. Modern cottage with a wonderful upstairs loft and full modern bath with jetted tub. We really enjoyed the breeze from the large deck facing the lake. Be sure to stop at the Portage store for ice cream right down the street."

  • So NICE this snob was thrilled!!!!!

"I am the pickiest individual about staying places, staying here was a thrill. Clean, beautiful, upgrades galore not to mention the nicest owner ever. I had run across a coffee pot that was broken from prior renters and she made sure it was addressed right away. We rented wave runners, fishing from the doc, just enjoyed the view and peacefulness. My teenagers enjoyed the view of the stars that we do not get here in the city. Hands down a top notch place to stay, my extended family is from Alpena and they raved about the place when they visited. As for the other comments from the 2 star renter, there is wood for sale at the end of the street for $5 on the honor system we had bonfires nightly. Air condition, we opened the windows and enjoyed the breeze from the lake. This place was great!!! WE will only rent here when I go back to visit. LOVED IT!"

  • Very clean and nice

"Had a great stay here recently. Just like other reviews we found the cottage very nice, clean and nicely furnished. Loved having many amenities provided by owner including 2 bikes and corn hole bean bag game. We utilized both all weekend. Owner very accommodating and responsive. Yard is rather large for being right on the lake. Privacy fences on both sides also never felt like neighbors were watching us or we were bothering them. Area is beautiful. Took daily runs and bike trips which was great. Be sure to check out Presque Isle lighthouses, worth the short trip. Also took day trip to Mackinac which was about a 1hr 15 min ride. Only thing I must note that I didn't see in any other posts is if you have kids I really don't recommend swimming at cottage. We tried it but this bay is more for fishing so water is shallow and very muddy. I sank in probably 6 inches when standing at end of dock. Kind of gross. There are many sand beaches only short drive away, or if you bring a boat like we did you can take boat to sand bar(s) and swim there. Not as convenient but also not bad if you know that going in."

  • Super-nice Cottage and Owner!

"My family has been coming to the Alpena area for many years, mostly staying at Grand Lake. This was our first time staying on North Bay. Me, my brother, my son, and his wife had a wonderful week at North Bay Getaway. The weather was nearly perfect the entire week; we really lucked out with that! The cottage is clean and comfortable, and has everything you may need for a week's stay. We used the gas fireplace often on cool mornings (very convenient!). The location is very private, with absolutely nothing but woods and beach to the South, and a handful of cottages that you can't see to the North. Steve, the owner, has a place right next door, and is often there in case you need anything, but will never intrude on your privacy. Steve was even kind enough to take us fishing on Lake Huron in his well-equipped boat! He's a very experienced fisherman. We caught four good size lake trout, the largest about 9 lbs. He even filleted them for us, and we cooked it on the grill. Excellent eating! Steve also showed us where the best places to fish Grand Lake are, and I put my boat in there several times during the week, also. Grand Lake has several public launches close by. This cottage is nearly walking distance to both of the Presque Isle Lights. The whole peninsula and surrounding area is very picturesque. The sunsets from the cottage were remarkable! Just gorgeous, looking west over North Bay. The deck is large and overlooks North Bay, with a gas grill and a nice new table and chairs. We enjoyed the sunny days on the deck. The water is very good quality, so you don't need to bring bottled if that's a concern. Satellite TV is great in the evening, or if you get a rainy day. Steve was also very prompt in returning my security deposit. We will definitely be returning to North Bay Getaway!"
